"115" has stopped us recruiting. 100%.

But it's also hard to build a squad that wins 6/7 leagues that is easy to dismantle at the exact right moment. It is what it is. I don't think you can be too hard at anyone on the club.
Good points. I think the issue for me is that we have not planned succession properly in the way that we did so well in the past. Think of how we didn’t see how we would replace Yaya and yet Fernandinho comes along seamlessly then we didn’t know how we would replace Fernandinho and along comes Rodders. Also, we know that it takes a season for even the very best players like say David Silva to get used to the premier league. I think that’s where we’ve gone wrong. How legends like Kompany and Sergio were replaced well ahead of when their time was up, unlike Kev, for example. I think that’s where the back office here needs to hold their hands up, regardless of whether it was pep who continued to have faith in the four in a row squad. Gundog and kova should have been squad players not first picks, of course injuries played a massive part here too.

Desperately disappointing result.

The sooner that **** salah fucks off to Saudi football the better. Scousers will be bang average without him next season, we’ll win back our title next season.

Their first goal came as a result of Taylor not giving us a free kick and playing advantage when we had the ball just outside our box and the dippers for once pressing us high. There was no advantage to be had. Lewis then loses the ball and Diaz who was offside wins a corner.

We were actually the better team until we reached the edge of their box. Obviously if Haaland had have played I think the result would have been different. Sav and Doku had a field day, so much so both their full backs were taken off and Alexander-Arnold set a PL record of being dribbled past the most times ever in a PL game.

Kush looks the real deal, Nico looks tidy as does Marmoush. All three have settled really quickly and will become better players very quickly. Phil needs a long rest to get himself 100%. Roll on next season I say.

I think we watched the same game

The frustration with Foden is that he calls for the ball (a pass) in positions where it is impossible to find him….He is not finding proper space and at times appears to be going through the motions.

Pep had a few rants at him about this yesterday….Foden just doesn’t work hard enough at the moment and unfortunately even his usual fabulous first touch has deserted him.

At times Doku was superb but playing both Doku and Savio on their weaker sides means that inevitably there is a delay with the final ball.

Not sure about Nico yet, but it’s early days and he hasn’t had a lot of support in the middle in the last two games.

Khusanov will be a rock for City and it should be him and another as a Centre Back pairing from now on…..we have got to prepare for next season as well as ensuring we get over the line for 4th place.

For me the priority has got to be another two midfielders for next season….we can’t flog Rodri again plus there are no guarantees that he will come back as he was and we are so desperately short of creativity.

I am not sure how good O’Reilly is but he has got to get some game time between now and the end of the season……Gundogan, De Bruyne, Kovacic and maybe Bernardo should only start when covering for injures.
Reference the midfielders,I think Gonzalez will rotate with Rodri. 2 top CM's in front of them will massively enhance us.

Absolutely shite comments. Our final ball was lacking and that was the big difference. We controlled the majority of the game, but once again poor defending cost us. Even in our peak we have given up more chances than we did today against them.
Simply having the ball isn't the same as controlling it.
When the other team are happy to let you keep it - usually because they have a lead and can see that you have no cutting edge, as was the case yesterday - it's not really control.

After yesterday’s performance, I’m convinced that we’ll be back at it next season. Much improved performance compared with most of our games since November

Enjoyed our first-half display from our wide men, little wrong with our approach play, but just nothing in the box.

For me, Foden is playing for his entire City future as a regular starter, factoring in the Gonzalez signing and the need to buy a Kev replacement.

Once Rodri is back, someone will then move down the order and Foden is showing nothing to suggest he is ready to take the final step.

We had a lot of younger players out there and Foden is now an experienced, serial trophy winner, showing little in any respects.

Khusanov continues to impress. Doku and Savinho are excellent buys, but they now need support of real quality around them.

I do think if Rodri and Nico play together, the entire team will be elevated in terms of retaining possession and it will elevate the rest.

Need a right back, creative midfielder, striker and goalkeeper. Good to go.
We are 80% there
Just need to get some creative midfielders and a right back
Also we need better squad options
Wirtz, zubimendi (not gonna happen), Frimpong and cambiasso would sort it out
Or just throw a shit ton at Madrid for Rodrigo as well
We are a team that works or doesn’t work
There’s no in between. We can’t play shot and win unfortunately.
If the dippers can have a rest season every three seasons and come back competitive we certainly can

Yeah, I agree we got it wrong and lessons need to be learned.

I'm not sure we got the timing right with Kompany necessarily, we just got very, very lucky with Dias.

The more I look at us the more I think we tried to get our timings right with Kalvin (a box to box that could also do back up for Rodri) but got it wrong and our plans since have been trying to mask that absolute fuck up (Kova, bringing Gundo back) which had them had a knock-on for other parts of the squad.

Some of its just bad luck. Whatever surgery/illness Foden had last year has done a number on him in ways I don't think we fully appreciate.

I think before the game, we all thought that scoring first was vital and so it turned out to be. Not only did Liverpool do that but got a second. It allowed them to control the game as it would have done us. They could choose to play on the break, and that did not happen very often. In fact Salah was helping his defence out most of the second half. It looked easy for them because our only danger came from the wings and they crowded their box making it so difficult for our wingers to find a telling ball. We didn't get much luck either.
It will be a slog for us to get fourth place but I think we will do it and that Pep will relish having a young fit squad next season.

I guess for this one, we all expected the game to kind of go how it did - which is obviously worrying but has been all season. The most annoying bit of all these kinds of games this season has been we've not really laid a glove on the opposition and when we do and get punched back, we give up. Being soft is never something you could say about a City team under Pep, but the injuries have got us to the point where we are mentally weak & physically weak. Khusanov having to fucking belt it back to cover shit defending (again) from Dias just shows we need a lot of changes, unfortunately.

Liverpool are by far the best team in the league, they had their few seasons of transitioning to a new(er) squad and its paying dividends now. Having said all of that, we are still in with a shot of top 4 after being SO bad this season, which only tells you one thing really, the rest of the league have been really terrible (which is kind of the same as the last time Liverpool won it!).

thought we played ok , but that says a lot about them I'm afraid

we will be ok with a few more tweaks

this is obviously a season too far for quite a few of our big players

hopefully champs league qualification and the fa cup will sooth the pain

I complained after Madrid that there was no fight. The fight was there yesterday but we aren't good enough which is more than acceptable (see - no entitlement) KDB shouldn't be near any top game now. Even to save his own legacy because he looks absolutely shot.

Rubbish performance, painful to watch. Body language not good at all, we looked beaten just walking onto the pitch.

We placed too much responsibility on Doku (who's barely played for a month) for creativity. He was brought in to to try to exploit TAA'a defensive weakness but Marmoush is not someone that thrives on crosses like Haaland so it made no sense. Also I would have picked Kovacic instead of KDB or Foden.

You’re right about Phil, currently our most disappointing and underperforming player for me. There’s no excuse. With people like Kev, Bernie and Gundo, I can understand their legs have gone and it’s a season too far, Phil is just letting us down. There can’t be any fitness excuse now. He’s playing in a free role. Just crap.
Agreed Rammy but I would take this even further.
I am one of Phil’s staunchest defenders to lay some kind of context.
I don’t think there is an “excuse “ but there must be a reason.
His trajectory from “World Cup Under 17” player of the tournament to serial trophy winner was incredible. He has not only plateaued but regressed.
Hopefully we get to know the reason/s and get the real Phil back.
