Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Optically this game felt weird, like it was being played at 80% speed (until Doku got the ball).

Thought Liverpool were shocking and a better side might have capitalised on some sloppiness in the 2nd half.

Doku and Nunes were both 10/10 though.

Also how easily Nico dealt with Salah, I'm not if he was great or if Salah is just totally done. Maybe both.

Don't know if that was the all-conquering performance by us that it's being reported as. Wasn't a disaster or a no-show from Liverpool either. A few marginal moments went our way - if they'd gone the other way it might have been a different game.

The game swung in that five minute spell when they had their equaliser disallowed - a decision I'm not sure about 100% either way - and we scored off a deflection shortly after. Liverpool were better in the second half but had too much to do.

But that's another game this season where we've improved on the result and performance from last year. I do think there will be more days like Spurs (H) and Villa (A) to come, which means Arsenal will be winners this year, but we're on the way back.

And with that said, lots of solid performances, especially from Nunes, Dias, and Gonzalez. Foden, Haaland, and Bernardo a little quieter than usual but still effective. The MOTM displays both came down the left from young Nico O'Reilly and Doku. Superb stuff.

Happy with where this team is. We'll finish 2nd on 75-80 points and give it a good go in the cups, which is fine by me. We're heading in the right direction for sure and days like today are ones we'll look back on when we're back at the very top next season.
Think you're trying to overcompensate on other people being excited. All football games have marginal moments, but we'd already missed a penalty and battered them when the deflection goes in.

Absolutely played them off the park..

We fkin hammered them today and with a team who are obviously in transition, not that the fkin media will acknowledge that...

Schooled them all over the pitch, missed a penalty and we still smashed them..

Half a £billion spent and they were fkin beyond shit..

Well played City.!

Not only that but there's absolutely no doubt that we will be responsible for sending the vast majority of the working public into work tomorrow morning with a beaming smile on their faces..!

City, City, brightening up Monday mornings for everyone..!

That was a brilliant performance by City who battered Liverpool. The 3rd and best of 3 very impressive performances in 8 days. Doku was absolutely unplayable and more so for having the licence to roam.
Nico Gonzalez and Bernardo were very good indeed in the midfield engine room and provide the platform for a terrific team performance. Without wanting to get carried away there is evidence now that Pep is making good process in building another great team.

I’m not sure their goal was offside, as in, he was offside but barely interfering… but I’ve only seen it back at half time in the ground.

However, we were owed a decision against them after:

CL games 2018:
Salah was offside for his goal
David Silva was brought down (legs swept from under him), no pen given
Sterling was brought down (legs swept from under him), no pen given
Jesus was onside for that late in the second half disallowed goal that would have given us an away goal.
Milner hand balled it at our place, no pen given
Milner played the ball for the Sané goal meaning Sané wasn’t offside, goal disallowed for offside

Prem Oct18:
Agüero brought down, no pen given

Prem Jan19:
Sterling was fouled by Robertson, no pen given

Prem Nov19:
Alexander-Arnold hand-balled it, clear as day he looked at the ball and stiffened his arm, no pen given and they scored up the other end.
Salah was offside for his goal and VAR wasn’t even used.
Pep has even said that VAR ‘wasn’t working’ in the first half.
Mane pushed Sterling in the back, no pen given.

Prem Oct21:
Mikner brought down Foden, no pen given.
Milner twice escaped getting a second yellow (both were bookable offences)

Prem Apr22:
No red cards for either Fabinho or Thiago (Fabinho’s could have been a straight red), then he avoided another yellow for a bookable offence challenge after the yellow he got when he should have been sent off

Prem Oct21:
Ref was letting minor physical contact go ALL game, we score a goal but they disallow it for a minor physical infringement in the build up but then allow four of the same instances of this go in favour of Liverpool throughout the rest of the game.

Prem Nov23:
Dias’ goal was disallowed for a ‘nothing’ infringement on their keeper, Akanji just jumped for the ball and happened to touch the keeper.

I’ve probably missed some…

Wasn’t there a dodgy one in the season we were going to the First Division title with them in 1977?
for me, the ones that really stick out are the second yellow for milner who was getting slaughtered and iirc got taken off shortly after. the two handballs by trent and the akanji 'foul' on allison. But that goal today 100% correctly dissallowed, he ducked to let the ball go past him, he is offside, if he doesnt duck under it the ball hits him in the chest and they dont score.

Encouraging performance from City, and three great points for us ..... we seemed to be much more up for it than they were for the most part, although we did get a bit 'sloppy towards the last third of the game when Liverpool might have pulled a goal back .... some really good performances from our lads today, especially Doku, and another win can only build our confidence even further, as we attempt to chase down Arsenal.

This is what happens when a Pep team isn’t getting old and full of injuries.

Looks like we have a defence as well. Truly astounding, or is it outstanding?

Well the performance was outstanding for the most part ..... but before the game i hadnt expected us to win by three clear goals, so to me, that was probably astounding!

Indeed. We battered em. Talking to a Forest fan at my daughters footy in the morning who unprompted told me "hope you win" and we both agreed how much the dippers are disliked by other fans.
