Liverpool (H) - Post-Match Thread

Not the worst point in the circumstances.
Agree to a certain extent and definitely before a ball was kicked...

But that is not how you win titles. On reflection I’m annoyed, if you survive that first 30mins. And the second half plays out like it did where you are at home and clearly on top against your closest rivals who are clearly dead on their feet and you just need an injection of something.. something which you have sat on the bench. You change it.

The circumstances were they were there for the taking second half and we bottled it.

I thought Liverpool played really well and showed that you don't have to park a bus

Both sets of supporters will be saying their team should have won, but WE really should have. We had two gilt edge chances which in these most important games you cannot afford to miss

Torres didn't perform for us and KDB was below par for him again
Gundogan grew into the game and our two centre halves were absolute quality

In summary, two of the best three teams in Europe out on display there today and both performed well

Post Match thread Pal. If you're going to slag off Pep with every post maybe just go to the Pep thread.
I’m talking about this game... he fucked up... it’s relevant to the Liverpool post-match thread but I’ll humour you... I’ll let others (who seem to agree) get my point across...

Half decent point, but so so disappointed that Pep shitted out of going for the win - Foden was stripped and ready, even though it was ridiculous as it was after 83/84 mins anyway, but then didn’t even bring him on.

Sterling was fucking hopeless as usual against them, Kev just not on it at the moment, and the less said about the Gundo/Rodri double pivot the better.

A world class manager is supposed to make the Sum bigger than its parts.

We can not deny for a while Pep has not being doing this.

The Lyon game his management of our squad was criminal. He was the only reason we lost that game.

we are seeing worrying management more, and more.he seems not be seeing what is obvious to the rest of us.

Every week just lately we usually spend an hour + playing the wrong formation. Then he changes it,we play better.

You say to yourself, now he knows his initial selection didn't work.

He will start next week with the energy of the team that finished.

Next week comes, low and fucking behold he starts the game with more or less the same team that didn't work.Makes a change look a bit better.

The next week we start again with the same starting 11

Rinse + Repeat rinse + repeat.

What have we learnt from that game:
1. If you can avoid conceding in the first 20 against the victims when they run around like lunatics you have a chance.
2. If you sit deep against them, they have little or no creativity to break you down and will rely on a dive for a penalty / free kick
3. Gabby looked sharp and scored a great goal
4. KDB needs a rest
5. Teams fall over against us and are given free kicks galore
6. Teams kick us with impunity knowing there is a good chance no free kick will be awarded - see their goal for an example
7. No point in moaning about wanting five subs and then not using three
8. Torres look like a quality player
9. More teams this season look like they can beat the top teams and therefore we need to put together a run of wins
10. Hopefully KDB and a few others will pull out of these pointless internationals
11. We need some pace in the midfield as it’s fine keeping possession but sometimes we need to move it quicker and support front men
12. Neville, Tyler and Spit talk utter drivel although we probably knew that anyway and didn’t learn that today
13. We still play better football than anyone in the league although hoof ball sometimes wins the day
14. Dias and Laporte look the business

Pissed that we didn’t win but delighted we didn’t like league lose. Two week break and let’s see how Spurs deal with us.

Defence looks really decent now we have Dias and Laporte together and literally anyone who isn't Mendy or Zinchenko at leftback. (Cancelo was probably MOTM). Midfield looks shit, pedestrian, slow. Pretty much how it will always look with Rodro and Gundogan in there, or Gundogan in general tbh as shit pedestrian and slow is pretty much his style. Kev racking up assists but nowhere near at his level yet this season, while the front 3 aren't looking right either, even if they have good individual moments.

Nice to have a solid base to build on, but we need to start playing Bernardo in midfield every game to get us that energy and tempo, otherwise it will be a long old season

Thought Laporte and Dias were very good. If Otamendi had been put into just a handful of those situations which Dias Dias dealt with easily, it is likely we would have conceded at least once.

The defence is fine, IMO. The issue is the midfield. They often don't shield the defence well enough and regularly fail to provide the forwards with ammunition.

It's becoming a regular occurrence that the midfielders are often out of position.

KDBs fitness is a major issue. When the opposition have posessessiom he is far too often on the wrong side of the ball.

Dias is clearly a very good CB.

Him and Laporte are the best partnership in the country imo.

I feel like this season we really need to be taking a minimum of 4 points against Liverpool because they will get more points than us against the rest of the league.

So I guess we need to win at Anfield now and probably also Mane and Salah to miss a significant amount of games in a key period.

5 of those conceded goals were in one game which is clearly an anomaly.

Take them out and we've conceded 4 in 7 which imo is very good.

Extrapolates to about 21 over a season which is excellent.

We've definitely improved significantly defensively.
I agree about the goals against, it’s the goals for I’m concerned about. We aren’t scoring enough to win games and we seem very reticent to attack at the moment. I’m sure Pep has a plan but I cant even start to guess what it is.

This is a season of transition. Over the last 2 or 3 years we’ve lost some of the best players in our history. This season we’ve not been great and we’ve lost one game. No team this strange season is going to run away with it We seem to have a solid defence and some youngsters coming through (if perhaps not quickly enough). What does need sorting out is Aguerosreplacement and Peps future. There was no lack of effort just a little lack of quality in final third.

Pains me to say it and it might just be a fitness issue but KDB doesn't work hard enough at the moment.
He's too good a player though not to come good & he'll be back but he can't be expected to do it all himself, our midfield has been poor this season

I went on the matchday forum and if I didn’t know the score could’ve been mistaken for thinking we were three or four goals down! Some absolutely embarrassing comments.
I give it a miss mostly these days, a lot of negativity, some of it justified. Watching city is very emotive for most fans, me included. But some can’t keep those emotions in check.
