Not one goalkeeper booked for time wasting in the 1st half since that game. After reading that Liverpool are going to be "punished" for surrounding the ref/not being able to control their players, it got me thinking about Rodri's yellow against Arsenal.
I know loads of teams have been charged after the game and been fined for the offence, but is anybody aware (genuine question that I don't know the answer to) of how many players have been booked for being the "3rd player" to approach the ref?
Every year new "law interpretations" are implemented "strongly" at first and then tweaked over the following weeks until they're workable, but I honestly can't recall another player getting a yellow for this, and teams, both prior and since, have been fined post match for it.
Obviously, one punishment affects the game, the other, not.
Weird how we often seem to be the solitary example, isn't it?
Bit like the pen in the same game, eh
Watch the uproar when Taylor gets the reverse fixture ;-)Not one goalkeeper booked for time wasting in the 1st half since that game.
Not one player booked for being the 3rd man to the referee since that game.
Not one penalty given for contact which has no effect on where the ball ends up given since that game.
Something odd was going on in that 1st half at the Emirates and we did well to rise above it and win.
Maybe the ref realised he’d made a mistake (or had been told) and the booking was very harsh. This led him not to issue a yellow for the holding.Just watched the first half upto where Rodri was booked. Ref indicated it was an accumulation of fouls. Rodri had not committed one, up to that point.
The holding was barely a touch. Never a yellow in a million years, despite the dipper scum trying to get Rodders sent off.Maybe the ref realised he’d made a mistake (or had been told) and the booking was very harsh. This led him not to issue a yellow for the holding.
He pointed to the foul he'd just committed and to the other side of the pitch, so just the two.One foul (not given) doesn’t explain the “totting up” thing he did.
So on what basis did TAA not get booked after multiple fouls? He pointed to the foul he'd just committed and to the other side of the pitch, so just the two.
It's about two minutes into the game, also on Gakpo, he pulls his shirt a couple of times, but ref waves play on as Gakpo manages to keep the ball until he makes a pass.
Between the two of them, it's definitely a yellow, but given he'd let Fabinho get away with a couple (probably because it was so early in the game, and while that's not "fair", refs clearly don't like early yellows), he was never going to book Rodri for a second, straight after.
Yep he indicated three fouls. Plus Konate was afforded the benefit of a warning after two fouls. Complete inconsistency. Maybe he realised this in hindsight and was lenient when Rodri did a further foul straight after. One foul (not given) doesn’t explain the “totting up” thing he did.

Agreed, and while i like Laporte. He is definitely a very useful squad player, helps us get through to domestic cup finals and plays well enough against bottom 10 sides so gives players like stones, Akanji and Dias a rest. Rotation is key for Pep and Laporte is a big part of that. Sadly as an international he will wont to play more (maybe). However, I don't think he really loves the game so maybe suited to the squad player role. Hard to really tell of course but just seems that way.Agreed 100% with Akanji. Grealish is now flavour of the month, so it seems it's Akanji's turn to be shit & not worthy of the shirt. :-/
It's all about opinions, but the £15m we spent on Akanji is the best value for money acquisition we've had since Fernandinho for £29m & Gundog for £22m.
It beggars belief that fans are getting on his case when he's had a brilliant first season with us. Pep picks him to start more often than not, so that's what City think of Akanji... \0/
Difficult though if we play Haaland, ok they CAN play together if they have to, but two central players up front throws our shape out. To me, Alvarez is not a ''pocket type'' player, (no 10 role). Thats is definitively Foden's and Silva's role really, if not pushed out wide. Alvarez can def be the Gab Jesus type when Haaland is not playing. To me, I prefer us like that with a roving 9 or even false 9, so much harder for oppos to mark us and better to watch. I know Haaland is loved and to me he has improved last few weeks as he is pitting a shift in but it takes a lot away from what we have been good at for years, pass and move, triangles and overlaps.Just watched the game back. Pep has to find a way of getting alvarez into this side. He’s way to good to be sat on the bench!
Shirt colour, badge, sponsor's logo perhaps. So on what basis did TAA not get booked after multiple fouls?
Perhaps so - I wasn't there.Chelsea (a) 2017/18, "purple" kit, KDB special.
We were sensational that night, even though it was only 1-0
The something odd can be summarised in two words, Anthony Taylor. Not one goalkeeper booked for time wasting in the 1st half since that game.
Not one player booked for being the 3rd man to the referee since that game.
Not one penalty given for contact which has no effect on where the ball ends up given since that game.
