Only possible change from that line-up would be maybe Stones in for Gvardiol, who’s been a bit sloppy at times in possession recently. And maybe Reijnders instead of Bernardo.
You'd keep Savinho and Doku as starters against a very tight hard pressing, energetic side? Would play straight into their hands.
We played a German Wolves last night - space and holes everywhere. Clearly many on here think not dropping a major clanger v poor opposition (or opposition that didnt get going until the second half), is vindication of months under perfomance by some.

No, I was replying to a post that had the same starting XI as against Bournemouth, so Doku to start but not Savinho.

Looking forward to this. Both teams have put in two good performances each in the last two games. I think it’s going to be a bit of a cracker.

I thought Stones’ positive passing last night was very good and that will probably sway Pep to play him this weekend

At whose expense though? Our results in the league with Dias and Gvardiol at CB this season: 5 wins and 1 draw in 6 games, the draw being at Arsenal.

Trust Pep to choose the right team. Chances are he starts with the XI vs Bournemouth.

I think he will play cherki because it will stop them adopting a highline and negating their press a little bit, the threat of him putting a ball over the top for haaland to run onto should make their backline drop off.

I’ve seen us shit the bed against these when we have had by far the better team….

I think the result depends on how we set up. I would probably go with the lineup that started the CL last night, but introduce Rodri (if fit), Moosh and Cherki much earlier…maybe 60 mins.

2-1 City.

Agree with you that the timing of the substitutions will need to be much earlier as soon as it is clear that players are tiring ( not after 15 minutes under the cosh like last night !!).
Time for the ex - Liverpool coaches to make their mark.
Must win game for many reasons.
C'mon City , we need a repeat of the Sergio / Sane performance.

Only question mark for me is Sav. He tends to play better in the CL as I think he sees it as his shop window and he’s trying to make the national team for the WC….we’ll see though, maybe start with him but swap him early if he’s strolling about.

Pep knows the importance of having momentum, he will start Cherki. Cherki has contributed 5 G/A in 180 minutes or so (Swansea, Bournemouth and Dortmund).

Seems like only 5 minutes ago I was dreading their previous visit, just hoping to somehow escape without being embarrassed.

Yet on Sunday we go into the match - thanks to a combination of some improvement on our side and a drop on theirs - with a genuine chance of winning, if we can score enough. I don't think a clean sheet is very likely.

Before the season started, I didn't expect any trophies (or maybe a domestic cup?), but would have settled for being in this position by Christmas, so well ahead of the game as far as I'm concerned.

With our porous defence I still expect the odd caning, but it's great to relish games like this again, as opposed to fearing them like last season.

If I had to choose a turning point, although it feels disloyal saying it - it must be the signing of Donnarumma. £26m? What a piece of business that was.
