Need to win this today and make a statement, if we are "back" that is. No wins in 9 v Arse and Liverpool is not ideal and it needs to change pronto, starting today. Not beating the other contenders is okay when you can beat everyone else. We're not beating everyone else these days in the league hence why we are in the position of now needing to beat Liverpool to be serious contenders.
Personally,I think if we win today that will be a huge statement from us
 
This game could be a marker, both for Pep and the rest of the league. Here’s hoping for a winner that lifts the roof off like Leroy Sane’s did!



Does anyone have the video clip of the fan who left early, who is walking through the neighborhood when that goal is scored and they made a video clip of the stadium all lit up and the noise of the crowd? It’s brilliant!

Also, reminds me of my Gran standing on her doorstep at 173 Horton Road and telling me the score when we got home just from hearing the cheering from the ground!

Ah, the good old days! Although I don’t miss trying to find a kerb to scrape the shit off my sneakers from running through the ginnels to get to and from her house and Maine Road!

If we go gung ho and try to press them they could just bypass our midfield and knock long balls into the channels for their forwards (especiallt ekiteke and Salah who are both quick and techincally good 1 vs 1)...that could cause us problems...I think we need to box clever here and not try to press them high...let them come at us a bit and then do the reverse to them .....if haaland gets in behind either of their two centre halves there is only one person winning that.....Cherki and Foden have the ability to play those balls in behind...
Previously Doku had a great deal of joy against TAA but its bradley now on that side (probably) -he pocketed Vinicius Jnr midweek....however Doke doesnt hide like Vini Jnr and is more up for a battle so that will be interesting to watch.

Shae Rodri isnt fit....Id like to see what Pep does when he has both Rodri and Nico G available in a game like this as it would be tempting to play both as even though they are two 6's they are both more than just destoyers...both can create and both can score as well while having the better physicality than other options.

I assume you are including Rodri in that? Gravenberch is arguably the most technically gifted player in the league and Macallister & Szoboslai are also very good.

The midfield battle is what concerns me most today as I just can’t see how we get the better of them in that area. Szoboslai as well is an absolutely cracking player after big Erl I would have him down as the 2nd best player in the league so far this season.
 
Be interesting to hear the media narrative if we win today regarding the red scousers I’d say they’ll still be in with a shout,where as we lose and it’ll be something like City’s season in tatters,not that it really matters when it comes to the media,although Sky will be desperate for a red scousers win at all costs..

yes id like to see Nico G and Rodri paired together...i think both have much more to their game

Agree on the midfield battle. WHen I say technical...i meant creative wise..Foden and Cherki are cracking in that department.

They have more running power than we do as well and I dont want to see the game stretched which is what will happen if we press to high I think
 
All I want is a fair fight from the match officials, but we are never going to get that, so any sort of win will be so so sweet and earned, Until the 115 results are official City will be given nothing and officiated differently

Taylor last week was shocking and did his best to get under the City players' skin and get a reaction, but thankfully we are better than that and got the result, but Pep still dug him out and the dodgy officials in the post-match interview

One big shout out is for the match going fans today, GET BEHIND the players and make it loud and proud

You want politics to be kept out of football but nearly every post from you is some culture war stuff.

Lets keep politics out of the pre-match thread!
 
No high front press please. Crowd are going to ask for it, but it's not our game anymore. We can do it in bits and can press from a deeper position instead. Let them have it around their back 4 if they want it, bank up and make ourselves as hard as possible to play through and don't take the jog forward so that 1 easy pass takes 5 players out of the game approach we had at villa.

Then hit them quickly, we don't need to control things, go to Doku quickly. Look for Haaland behind early and let those 2 punish them for their high press. Do those 2 things and I think we win, and win well. Take a different approach and I see us losing.
