If anybody thought we were going to be up to speed after playing two friendlies with some key players not even there, then more fool you.
I viewed the match as a "chance" to win, but be realistic if we didn't.
The truth is we were awful. I struggled to rate even one of our players.

The rags and dippers always tend to have a better pre season than us. But as ever, a good pre season doesn't mean anything.
The dippers annoy me even winning the toss. But it is the press reactions that annoy me more.

I'm just glad football is back. The real fight starts next week...

The 'On Target' stats: Dippers 4 on and three goals; City 8 on and one goal. Seems we are starting this season where we left off last season. Don't know how much of a save the goalie had to make on the seven that didn't go in, but I worry that, even with Haarland, Grealish, Foden, Alvarez and Kev firing on all cylinders we will continue to rack up the 'on target' shots but not convert them into goals, and at the back we seem worryingly vulnerable. Last season we let in some goals but always seemed to outscore our defensive lapses. Hope that continues!

Difference yesterday was that Liverpool’s full backs created balance in attack, whereas ours created confusion in attack and Cancelo wasn’t great in defence. Coupled with Rodri being off the pace, Dias looks a good few weeks behind being match ready and Ake being a bit short and unconvincing we did well to compete for the middle 70 minutes.

Those scouse full backs really do make their team

I see ake who was no worse than dias, and cancello who he had to suppprt when defending left back is gonna replace sterling as the go to moan for some.

The whole defence was poor yesterday.

As for Haaland, he is a striker in the traditional mold, if he doesn't get the ball to his feet he will be inefective, much like Nunez will be, thing is with yesterday the few times their fella was or looked effective their fullbacks got the ball just past the halfway line and then dinked it over the top for him to run on or when wide the ball was floated in, a few times ours with walker in particular in the same position will stop the ball and look for a short pass into the middlefiled, which is our style and has been effective and we shouldn't change it , but how many seasons has their been a moan we sometimes take one pass too many, Haaland is the player that one extra pass doesn't need.

Same with grealish and mahrez when the ball was wide one would look to turn and pass it on to the centre just outside the18 yard box the other try to cut inside and shoot, we have a striker now to aim quick balls into him.

But we shouldn't change our style to suit one player but we need to adapt it a little, and Haaland in my opinon will still bag a load of goals

Look at a similar striker Lewandowski his first at Bayern, with Pep he moved him out wide or in a more withdrawn position, with Robben, Muller or Gotze playing as a false nine. in the end-of-season goals tallies: Lewandowski 17, Robben 17, Muller 13, Gotze 9. The goals were shared around
The next season Guardiola went more direct: Costa and Coman on the flanks creating chances from out wide ended with Lewandowski upfront he bagged 30 goals in rhe league 42 overall.

So Pep knows how to tweak the forward system to suit both our new strikers, but if the wide players of overlapping fullbacks get in crossing position they really need to put the ball in the box this year not turn around and always look for kev on the 20 yard area.

This is not a criticism as overall I think we were rusty more than bad yesterday.

Finally they got a penalty when the game was even, after that we seemed lethargic 3-1 and the press reports are vastly over rating how good they were, which wasn't much better than us.

If we had paid any attention to the RDAHMeedya last season then both outperformed us, and had a much better season than us!

Maybe this result will actually benefit us , the Dippers will now go into the season thinking the title is in the bag and have proven a point and Pep will always have a reference to put even more determination into our players to grind these socuse bastards into the dirt.
Save all the headlines from the next few days , especially the Haaland bullshit in the papers etc to remind our players what the media are all about in this country , its a Dipper/Rag closed shop simply because of the amount of fans they have and the clicks/advertising it generates
One headline stated Liverpool give City a bloody nose , which is fine, most fights you would end up with a bloody nose , but lets see who is standing in May.
