Our main concern for this game is midfield.

CBs don't run as much as midfielders and can play more games. Plus, we have options in Dias and Ake.

FBs: Pep likes to say that Cancelo is extraordinarily fit and can play every 2 days. If true, shouldn't be a problem. Ake/Zinch may be used at LB, they should be fresh.

Forwards/wingers: Jesus, Sterling and Grealish must be fresh. Foden is only 21 y.o, he should recover relatively quickly. Mahrez will be an option from the bench.

Midfield: KDB out injured, Rodri and Bernardo played vs Liverpool and both games with Atletico, that's a problem. Bernardo was subbed with 10-15 minutes to go, hopefully this will help him play an hour or so. Gundogan is going to play, but won't be fresh enough to play the whole game.

One possible way to solve the midfield problem is to play with 3 CBs and use Cancelo as a WB.

3-5-2: Stones, Laporte/Dias, Ake--Cancelo, Zinchenko--Ferna/Rodri, Gundo/Bernardo, Grealish/Foden--Raz and Jesus.

Think Pep is forced to "overthink" this game and come up with a surprising plan in order to use fresher players and give us a proper chance.

It's times like this when you realise our squad isnt that big.
And all these idiots saying we have 2 teams.
Yes they are idiots, thats why they are either failed managers or those that never were able to manage in the first place.

I would have rested KDB in this game anyway so I don’t think that will be a factor

also we have the luxury of 5 subs , which means we can freshen up the team after 60 mines, which means we could pick a stronger team that we would normally

we also have players in our squad that are pure athletes and are never injured

Cancelo, Rodri, Sterling, Foden , Mahrez, Bernardo

i think the following team gets the job done

Steffan

Cancelo Stones Dias Ake

Rodri

bernado gundogan

jesus Sterling grealish

we’ve still got Foden & Mahrez to freshen up the attack if chasing a goal or Fernandinho if we want to close it out

i think those thinking Liverpool are at an advantage, they have Utd on Tuesday which will be taking their focus off this game a little

Diaz will probably start for them. We will need Cancelo at right back. And someone to mark Salah

I hesitate between two options: start with our best available team and see what happens, or try to play the first 60 minutes with a weakened midfield and then, with 30 minutes to go, sub in the likes of Rodri, Bernardo, Foden and Dias.

If we start with our best team and don't lead before the final 30 minutes, we are likely to finish like vs Atlético, but against a much better attack...And if we start with Ferna, Gundo, Grealish/Zinch in midfield, we may be losing by 1-2 goals when Pep decides to bring in Rodri, Bernie and Foden. But if we are not losing, chances are we'll win the game.

A "middle" option: play Ferna, Gundo and Bernie for 60 minutes, and then bring in Rodri, Foden and Mahrez in the last 30 minutes.
