25mE for Markovic is a fantastic deal, he's as promising a player as there is in world football. I'll be absolutely gutted if he really is going to Liverpool
More promising than the likes of Verratti, Pogba, Varane, Alaba, James & William.

Not sure about that
He's better than James or Di Maria were his age, he's as good a prospect as I've seen in the Portuguese league. Hard to compare him to people who play in completely different roles like Pogba and Varane

I find the James reference very hard to believe. James had a 1:2 goal record at the age of 19/20 for Porto along with a handful of assists.

I assume Markovic is nowhere near those stats

I remember him from Benfica's Europa League campaign. Very quick.

A lot of money to pay for such a young player.

a) I'm basing it on how well he played, not his stats.
b) That was James's 2nd season in Portugal, in his first year (when he was 19 like Markovic) he was a bit part player in AVB's excellent team.

Isn't Markovic 20 now and James is 22. Since AVB was at Porto he has started seasons at Chelsea & Spurs.

Alas I split hairs. We shall agree to disagree

The confusion is based around the fact that James turns 23 in about a week. He was 19 in his first season, as Markovic was this year (before turning 20 two months ago). James's breakout season was his second season, when he was 20, under Vitor Pereira.

I've put together a little list or snapshot of the myth that Liverpool in some way brings though lots of youth.

Firstly I choose to illustrate their 5 times EC / CL cup winning teams. Arguably represent the best of Liverpool teams.
Then (of those players not already named in the CL squads) I took every player signed since 1960 who played more then 100 times for LIverpool - essentially illustrating their best players. Obviously there might be some great players who played less than 100 times, but I had to make a cutoff point somewhere and 100 games seems a significant contribution to Liverpool over the years.

It's really not a tale of youth success.

I'm not saying other clubs are any better, simply it's a bit of a myth that Liverpool's success is founded on bringing young players through.

I would argue though, they they DID know how to spot talent once it had been developed elsewhere in the lower leagues, or youth teams. I don't think anybody can argue they were damn good at that - far better than most others.
