Totally agreed. I watched most Lille matches before Lopes got injured and Origi never looked that promising. Seemed to be a mindless runner more than anything else.
Last time I checked, he'd gone about 10 hours without scoring and was being booed by his own fans. Not sure how that is supposed to fix a striker crisis, I'm not sure

So they want Balo without all the Balo incidents, then?
He's more like Mario without the talent or the incidents. So just shit tbh. Maybe he's just in terrible form, but I've not seen anything from his games at Lille this year to suggest he's particularly good at anything. I'm surprised they haven't given someone from their academy a go instead of paying an extra 6m to bring him in early, given his form.

I think once I saw him chip one nicely in from the left for one of their other talentless forwards to bugger up. But other than that it seemed that the terrible form was more or less the entirety of his repertoire. So if you wanted no scoring you might as well keep Balo and sell some shirts.

I wonder what the math whiz at FSG in charge of their acquisitions saw in Origi? Some obscure statistic or some such? Or maybe happened to have the US-Belgium world Cup match on? I seem to remember him perhaps doing something in that match.

Re: The Red Lion Pub Team (Liverpool) Thread 2014/15

Come on, Origi is a good prospect. The kid is 20--it's not until about 23 before we should write off talented young players.

It was SUPPOSED to go like this

Sturridge (1st choice)
Mobile 2nd striker that runs a lot to play often (Remy or Bony)
Origi
Lambert (4th choice, kitchen sink time).

Problem is somebody forgot to tell the transfer committee that Balotelli doesn't "run a lot" and that Sturridge is only going to be available 67% of the time maximum.

Seiyan - and BTW I echo what was said above about you being too sensible to be a Dipper fan:

Who else was interested in Origi? I will grant that he is young and has pace. He is actually 19 I think. But were any major clubs looking hard at him? Did Brenda pip Chelsea or someone like that for his signature? (Serious question and not a piss-take - I try not to follow the transfer rumours too much as to the football world as a whole.)

Re: The Red Lion Pub Team (Liverpool) Thread 2014/15

Forgot to add - my opinion of Origi is shaped very much by the fact that he is represented by a firm that pretty much handles all the American footballers with any international profile. Obviously Origi is not American but his agents are and FSG presumably deals with them a lot as they are a big Baseball agent firm as well.

So I kind of envision Origi getting to the attention of FSG this way as much as by any other dynamic.

Bony doesn't look like the type of player Rogers would sign.

Because he's actually quite good?
