Daily Star: In addition to James Milner, who they expect to sign, Liverpool have also made City forward Stevan Jovetic a £16m summer target.

What is with Liverpool and next year?

Otherwise linked with Depay.
Ok. He's quality and the type of player we need. But we have Sterling, Ibe, and Markovic already in the wide positions.....
In any case we'll offer 15-18 M, PSV will want 25-30M. Spurs will probably offer higher than us and will emerge as a real signing rival, then you, the Rags or Chelsea will come in at the 11th hour pay the asking fee and that'll be that. And to add insult to injury, we'll then probably turnaround and pay 30M for Berahino.
- Proven striker--whatever it takes. We must be willing to overpay if it's for quality.* Martinez or Lacazatte. Yes, above our pedigree, but move mountains.
- Cheapie support striker that can run - we fucked about paying 5M for Ings in January, now he'll go to the Rags. Maybe Jovetic? :)
- Milner
I'd be happy with that output from the summer if it means Lucas and Sterling stay and Lambert, Borini and Johnson leave. Maybe we need another journeyman old head in there, but Skrtel and Lucas--who should stay, are reaching the stage where they can be considered veterans.
*But what I don't understand is that we paid 25, 20, and 20M for Markovic, Lallana and Lovren, no questions asked, no haggling-- so I'm really mystified by our transfer strategy.....we paid 35M for fucking Andy Carroll and 20M for Aquilani when that was a lot of money.
Overpay for Lacazette? That sounds like something City would do. I'd be worried that he is a bit of a flash in the pan, so to speak. He has more or less doubled his goals per 90 minutes rate from age 22 to 23.
Certainly a quality player but I imagine his true ability is somewhere between this year's output and last year's.
Also, the increase in goals this year has a lot to do with 7 of them being pennos (he had zero in Ligue Un last year.)

But Lacazatte has a good upside and he fits our paying style. We MUST take an informed* gamble, and we'll never do worse than 35M for Caroll or 20M for Aquilani. Playing it safe won't do, it'll just get us mediocrity and 5-7th again. We already tried the quantity thing last summer, now might well take our chances on true quality.
*Young but not a baby, no injury record, proven goal scorer, and fits the playing style of Coutinho and Sterling.
“It is great for the public here at Sunderland to see us,” said manager Brendan Rodgers. “They must have been wondering what this team everyone is talking about are all about and now they have seen. We were wonderful.
“Our intention is always to pass teams to a standstill, but give credit to Sunderland, they defended ever so well when other teams might have wilted.

I think Sunderland had beaten them 2 or 3 nil that day.
