On the positive side, that reported profit is nearly exactly the book profit on Coutinho (bar add ons), not likely to reach the CL final this year either, their next report is going to be grim reading for their fans.

That would be next season on the books though, as it is, they're on course for a loss (-£105m profit on transfers, +£35m or so in amortization, +£wages for their summer signings, possibly -£around half their CL money), which they'll have to make back over the following 2 years for FFPR.
This is the problem with the 3 year rolling period for FFPR, make a big net profit on transfers in one year and you can take the piss for the next 2 years, but come the third year you're in trouble.

Presumably they're not daft enough to load the full cost of the transfers onto a single set of accounts. They'll amortise those.

They will, hence the figure of £35m, which is probably a bit conservative on my part.
Including VVD they spent around £240m and he only got half a year's amortization in those books.
