But it is their year
I too think it will be that close a title race. The 6 points we play them for are going to be crucial to the outcome this year imo...
A new record. They’ve crowned themselves champs in August.
Yes.It’s not just Van Dyke that’s made a difference, although along with Mane, he is the player I’d most like to see out of action for an extended period. Gomez and Terrence Trent-Darby now afford them some serious pace at the back, and Allison is light years ahead of either of the clowns they had in goal last season. Palace and Brighton are exactly the types of teams who’ve been able to cause the dippers problems in the last couple of seasons, by pinging it over the demented press and having powerful runners like Zaha bear down on exposed defenders. I watched the Palace game, and VVD and Gomez won every challenge, every foot race and virtually every header. That they’ve kept 3 clean sheets and yielded very few chances, is no surprise.
And as regards the midfield’s lack of top drawer creativity, they simply don’t need it. Milner, Henderson, Keita, Wijnaldum et al, are there to harangue and harry the opposition like rabid dogs and turn the ball over, whilst still being good enough to then quickly release the trio up front who do all the damage. The dippers aren’t really a counterattacking team IMO, but rather one that presses insanely in and around the halfway line, so that they’re seldom exposed themselves at one end, but leave Mane, Salah and Firmino a decent amount of space to operate in ahead of them. It’s no surprise that they beat us 3 times last year (shit referees or not), because our possession game high up the pitch is perfect for them. I don’t think we can expect them to drop many points against non top 6 opposition like they’ve done in the past, and we can ill afford the kind of sloppy performance we served up yesterday. They’ll push us all the way, despite the complacent piss taking from many on this thread
Edited.fair play - if it was a 3 game season they would have smashed it - sadly for them its not. Do they ALL suffer from premature expectation?
Pep did solve it didn't he in the return leg, needing to score 3 without reply, should have been even more ideal for their style. Instead, got two goals in the first half and utterly demolished them.
Not forgetting of course that next April is the 30th anniversary of Hillsborough.
We all know what's coming.
Cult. This is worse than England fans singing it's coming home. Hahahaha, fucking hell, jokers!
