That's right, certainly for some dislocations.
The bits that hold joints together (tendons or ligaments, not sure which) are inelastic, and if the dislocation causes them to stretch, they stay stretched, meaning there's less force keeping the joint together.
I've done both of mine, one badly enough that I had it operated on about 75 times in - it's much better now, but then I could do it sneezing before (I could make it go back though on nearly every occasion). I still can't do a lot of things though.

Nope, which sadly means that when my shoulder is out, I don't feel up to slamming it into a wall to put it back in. Moving that fast is impossible, I find.
