Had two great danes when I was a lad (now I have a beagle due to lease restrictions) and my mum has pictures of my sister and her friends taking turns riding one like a horse at a birthday party... when they were 12 or so.

The problem with mastiffs, bernards, great danes, etc. is everyone in the neighbourhood is on edge any time you take them for a walk. Some geezer actually called the police on my dad walking them one night as he thought they were being aggressive toward his wife and daughter (who were literally petting them, as our dogs were incredibly well-behaved).

Would love to have one now if not for most decent buildings in city centre here prohibiting them.

Mane wouldn’t be able to handle them, mind — he’s too kicky-fally for that sort of dog.

I have a beagle. Aren’t they brilliant dogs? So obedient.

Vidic reckons Van Dijk would NOT get in United's team lol.

Van Dijk is well overrated but he WOULD get in their team to be fair.

That's a United bias. He is not going to say that Van Dijk would get in even though his statement is stupid because Van Dijk would get into any premier league team and I think he'll end up winning the PFA player of the year award in a couple of months. Even if some don't rate him that highly, he is surely better than United's central defenders. There is no way Lindelof, Bailly, or Jones are better than he is. Neither is Smalling, in my opinion.

Watching the Bayern v Hertha Berlin match and, although they just went 1-nil up on Javi Martinez’s first goal in 13 months, they really do look pedestrian right now.

Does not inspire confidence in the home leg against Liverpool.

Schalke losing in Mainz, very poor league.

Really does seem to be on the decline.

Not entirely down to it, of course, but I am sure the World Cup didn’t help.

Liverpool actually have a good chance of getting through to the next round, unfortunately.

Edit: Funny enough, Karim Rekik just got sent off for Hertha Berlin. Very harsh red for me, as well. We’ll see which team the ref favours in the Liverpool clash.

I think it's great if they are through. They'll be running on their knees after another CL round, which is good for our PL chance. Are you afraid that they might get in our way or win the CL? I just don't see that risk this year.

No, I am afraid they’ll gain confidence to help them out of their slump, which could in turn make things more difficult for us in the PL and CL.

I think we’ll know more after tomorrow, though.

A few good results in the champions league will no doubt give them a boost. I’m not fussed either way, happy for them to go out, happy for them to stay in.
