Liverpool thread 2018/19

As a Liverpool fan living in Manchester I've had many conversations with both the blue and red side of Manchester and have often been able to stay realistic. First of all it is clear to anyone without extreme bias that Manchester City are still the best side in England and this 4/7 point lead is 1 loss away from crumbling to nothing given Liverpool's recent history so I'll reserve calling my team the champions till the final day of the league.

What I do hear quite often though is this "Liverpool are so lucky and when will their luck end" etc. I just wondered whether we could put this to bed now. Kompany arguably should have seen red against Liverpool at the Etihad, 4 of our 6 first team defenders are currently injured. keita was out injured, as well as our captain for half the season. Clear handball today in the area not given. Yes we got lucky at Anfield with the penalty miss and a few dodgey penalties from Salah + some crazy deflections but baring the Everton win, most of these were in games we'd already comfortably won.

Finally, last season OPTA calculated the luckiest and most unluckiest teams based on wrong officiating decisions. Manchester City came out as the luckiest team in the league benefiting more from wrong decisions than any other team, and Liverpool came out the unluckiest, losing out on 12 points. The narrative that officials favour Liverpool etc etc just doesn't stand up to actually data and scrutiny.

I can't see Liverpool going away to United and Everton and picking up 6 points so there will definitely be a chance for City to close the gap and put the pressure on. I just pray City drop a point or 2 along the way as well. Title is far from over.

P.S, as a teacher of a Oldham primary school with links to Manchester City we were given a bunch of tickets to take the kids to the Burton game. What a pleasure it was to watch this team in action. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

The "lucky" league was not compiled by OPTA. It was done by the University of Bath.

City did NOT come out as the luckiest team in the league. In the simulated "luck index" table we were top with an adjusted total of 97 points instead of the 100. Not much luck there then...

As for the "handball" today, you shouldn't have had the corner directly before as it was clearly headed out by vvd.

Keita's challenge was interesting.

kompany’s yellow any different to Van Dijk’s yelllow against Napoli this season ?

How many injuries have you had to your most influential players (comparitively to us) such as Salah, Van Dijk, Firmino, Mane ?

Had you ‘already comfortably won’ the game against Palace today when Speroni unbelievably palmed it back into his own net ?

I think you’re a good team don’t get me wrong, but the denial of luck you’re getting is a bit strange.

Forgetting everything else that’s been mentioned and just minus the unreal Pickford and Speroni incidents, you’d only be 3 points ahead now with us having a game in hand.

well put. I can think of a couple more like sturrige having a luck shot against chelsea and us missing the penalty. By this calculation they will atleast be 6 points behind us at this point at the minimum. this is with not speaking about the luck that has gone against us. no amount of media narrative will make me believe they are having a better season than us let alone our equal.

Posted this in probably the wrong thread.
So here's to you Brolin knows feck all!

What the opposing captain should do pre warm up against Liverpool, when Klopp is staring, is get a little side bet going.

Kompany: "Right lads, when doctor teeth is stood in that centre circle staring at us training, we all get the chance, from wherever you are on the pitch to smack the ball at him.
The first to hit him, wins whatever's in the kitty.
It's £10 a go, who's in?"

Ederson: "I'll have 10 go's" !

You are desperately clutching referring to Sturridge’s goal as “luck”. I’ve seen many claims of luck on here that I’ve either seen my own eyes, agree with, or at least understand to some degree.

You must think goal of the month and season competitions are luck contests. Or do your views only apply to Liverpool goals?

Fair fucks to them they aren’t going away. Today should have seen them drop points but by hook or by crook they managed to salvage all 3.
It doesn’t matter how lucky/stuffy they are at the moment, if they keep winning then like it or not the pressure is on us far more than it is them.
The two daft defeats against palace and Leicester have made this an uphill struggle and goes to show that if we’re not on it 100% every league game the chances are they will take advantage because like us last season they don’t know when they’re beat.
Don’t get me wrong, they have been getting their fair share of helping hands and we are better than them pretty much all over the pitch, but as long as they keep winning they won’t give a fuck.
We have to go out tomorrow and win well, we have to show them and all the fawning ****s in the media that we aren’t going away and hopefully their luck will finally run out and we can capitalise.
Winning the title this season will be the best one yet and I include the Agueroooo one in that.
*other opinions are accepted*

Was it a 2nd yellow for Milner or a straight red?

Second yellow, according to the BBC’s report. He has turned into a right dirty bastard since his arrival at candle central.

So that’s TTD and his deputy out of the next game. Who will Klippety have at right-back for the Leicester game?

Elf ears Danny Murphy reckons it’s there year boys
They can finally do it!
What with all the luck there getting it’s looking meant to be!
Oh well always next year
MCFC!
He'll know as he made a packet on Leicester winning it.

No, I'd describe the brilliant goal form Andros Townsend at our place "lucky", as he could hit that 100 times and probably score 3 or 4 at most, not to mention be presented with the chance at all by 3 or 4 bits of inept defending before it got to him.

A "great" goal from distance is often lucky, but lucky is definitely your last minute winner against everton for starters.

Forget your ‘luck’ then. The wolves handball at the start of the season was a disgrace. That decision will have as big an impact as our penalty miss against you after we bossed you at your place without the best midfielder in the world. If you’re honest when you watch your team you know you still don’t play better football than us. You know it.
