No, I'd describe the brilliant goal form Andros Townsend at our place "lucky", as he could hit that 100 times and probably score 3 or 4 at most, not to mention be presented with the chance at all by 3 or 4 bits of inept defending before it got to him.

A "great" goal from distance is often lucky, but lucky is definitely your last minute winner against everton for starters.

Forget your ‘luck’ then. The wolves handball at the start of the season was a disgrace. That decision will have as big an impact as our penalty miss against you after we bossed you at your place without the best midfielder in the world. If you’re honest when you watch your team you know you still don’t play better football than us. You know it.

Trust me I agree we’ve had some good luck this season, and I’ve never claimed we’re anywhere near as good of a team as Man City. I think Man City, Juventus and Barca are easily the Best 3 teams in Europe at this moment in time. I do have us in the Top 10 though.

K10&S21 is just a bit of a random one. I don’t see last minute winners as luck regardless of who scores them. Think Wolves, Rags and Cardiff are the only teams with 2+ last minute winners this season. Just feels like everyone’s massively focused on luck this time around. I don’t mind it from City fans as you’re a better team than us and actually in the title race. It’s when Arsenal fans etc start piping up acting as though without Pools luck they’d be one or two points off of us despite the state of their bang average squad. Iwobi hasn’t even scored an onside goal this season for starters yet we’re the lucky ones.

No point in moaning about their luck imo. Sure, they’ve had the rub of the green on a fair few occasions this season but league tables don’t lie and they’re top on merit. We got ourselves into this position with the defeats against Palace and Leicester. Assuming we win today, then four points isn’t a huge gap and there’s still plenty of games to go. Their position is looking stronger with every passing week though.

Agree it’s our fault with the unforseen losses over the Christmas period. Four points is not huge and there are still a lot of games for them to slip up in. That said though they have had a massive amount of decisions that have gone there way.

They seem to be slowing down though and are not beating teams with ease and with the CL to kick in then hopefully it can play into our hands, even drawing games will allow us to reign them in.

Be interesting to see how Liverpool approach the CL games, wonder if Klopp will throw them like the domestic cup comps?

I agree that there is nothing lucky about scoring last minute goals.

For me though the luck element is more to do with having the rub of the green. Deflections seem to be falling Liverpool’s way and more importantly, goalkeepers seem to be doing their best to gift Liverpool goals.

The Pickford clanger is something you see once a year maximum. So for 2 goalkeeping clangers of that magnitude to happen and both benefit the same team is ridiculously lucky.

Those two events alone have gained Liverpool 4 points. We win this afternoon and that’s the difference between 1st and 2nd place.

We can get it down to 1 point before they play again. Let's see how they cope with the pressure then

As a Liverpool fan living in Manchester I've had many conversations with both the blue and red side of Manchester and have often been able to stay realistic. First of all it is clear to anyone without extreme bias that Manchester City are still the best side in England and this 4/7 point lead is 1 loss away from crumbling to nothing given Liverpool's recent history so I'll reserve calling my team the champions till the final day of the league.

What I do hear quite often though is this "Liverpool are so lucky and when will their luck end" etc. I just wondered whether we could put this to bed now. Kompany arguably should have seen red against Liverpool at the Etihad, 4 of our 6 first team defenders are currently injured. keita was out injured, as well as our captain for half the season. Clear handball today in the area not given. Yes we got lucky at Anfield with the penalty miss and a few dodgey penalties from Salah + some crazy deflections but baring the Everton win, most of these were in games we'd already comfortably won.

Finally, last season OPTA calculated the luckiest and most unluckiest teams based on wrong officiating decisions. Manchester City came out as the luckiest team in the league benefiting more from wrong decisions than any other team, and Liverpool came out the unluckiest, losing out on 12 points. The narrative that officials favour Liverpool etc etc just doesn't stand up to actually data and scrutiny.

I can't see Liverpool going away to United and Everton and picking up 6 points so there will definitely be a chance for City to close the gap and put the pressure on. I just pray City drop a point or 2 along the way as well. Title is far from over.

P.S, as a teacher of a Oldham primary school with links to Manchester City we were given a bunch of tickets to take the kids to the Burton game. What a pleasure it was to watch this team in action. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

City are always the 'luckiest' team.

We were when Utd were getting dodgy decisions every week. We were so lucky with the decisions v Liverpool & Utd last season.

Were lucky that Aguero doesn't get yellow cards for diving every time someone kicks his legs from under him in the box & no pen is given & that our players rountinely get sent off for stuff others get away with every week.

But yes, amongst a recent glut of non red cards for people committing extremely violent, career threatening challenges, we actually got away with one of our players making slight contact with the master of deception himself, Mo Salah & getting such a decision against Liverpool isn't just lucky, it's a fucking miracle.

Yup & the penalty miss at their place.

Tbf the main reason they are above us is down to fortune, because they could easily have dropped the same points, but they are in the title race because they have played at a decent level & if they maintain that level & win games, rather than being held at the top by officials, & we don't, they will deserve to win it.

But it's the rub of the green which currently has them 1st, in spite of our mistakes.
