I don't think he'd be the same player if he were still at Southampton. Klopp has improved him in the same way that Guardiola has improved almost all of our players. Great managers elevate players. Iniesta wasn't the same player prior to Guardiola going there are as he was when Pep got to work with him. Ditto Messi, Xavi, Busquets, Philip Lahm, Kimmich, Raheem Sterling, and Bernardo Silva.

I might agree with you that the only team he wouldn't get in at City because Laporte and Stones are more comfortable on the ball and play Guardiola's style better than this version of Van Dijk does (who knows what he'd look light after Pep works with him for a year) but I don't think you seriously believe that Vincent Komoany in 2019 is a better defender than Van Dijk. That's....something I wouldn't even know how to begin to respond to.

You and your lad enjoy the day bud and lets hope you witness another pot being lifted. It will be all the sweeter though if you know the dippers lost and will give the travelling support such a boost cheering the team on

You’ve clearly been swept away by the hype. The minute Van Dijk signed for Liverpool he was mysteriously elevated to the greatest CB in the world, way before a ball was kicked or Klopp had a chance to ‘work’ with him.

I wonder why Klopp’s ‘work’ hasn’t transformed Matip, Lovren, Moreno and Origi into brilliant players?

Is his magic selective?

A fit Kompany would be my choice over Van Dijk every day of the week.

Vinny was absolutely outstanding in the game v Liverpool at our place whereas Van Dijk performed like a rattling smackead for much of the game.

Laporte is better than the pair of them, still can’t believe he doesn’t get picked for France. Always in the right place at the right time and has a knack of opening up the oppositions defence with his passing.

If Van Dijk ends up on the player of the year shortlist, that will only prove what you said and confirm this conspiracy. It is 2019 Vincent Kompany who can't keep a starting spot at his team who should be in that shortlist.

No one said dick van dyke wasn’t a good player but he’s nowhere near as good as the media make him out to be, stop reading the press and actually watch him play, with every passing post you sound less and less like a City fan

Strange and it seems to say it, I think his strengths lie in the pure defending side of being a centre-half. In passing and bringing it out he leaves a lot to be desired.
