The problem right now for Liverpool is that teams aren't playing against them in extremes anymore.

If a team sits back against Liverpool and concedes possession for long periods of time, then this benefits Liverpool because then eventually when attacking that deep block with the players they have they can get a goal, and since the ball is so far away from their net, they can control counter attacks well.

If a team presses high, then Liverpool can exploit spaces behind and counter with their wingers to score goals.

But if a team is somewhere in the middle of this as Chelsea did, where they balance pressing and sitting deep (which City have now adopted as well), then Liverpool can't develop any consistent rhythm, they aren't given enough time to beat the block because the opposition will try to go forwards, but they also don't get many chances to counter as well, they get half the moments in each phase, no rhythm to develop.

This will be a consistent problem for Liverpool if other teams learn this faster than Klopp does, Pep and Tuchel are tactically ahead of every other manager on this front.
