And of course about the painful reality that it makes not a spot of difference to how anyone else feels.

Owning your situation and the fact that it is largely the result of the choices you make, is of course the best way to get things back on track, and I'm sure would be the starting point for any team worthy of contending again.

Exactly. If winning one trophy automatically qualifies you for the final of another trophy, then it's not a proper competition, it's just an exhibition. As you say, nice to win, but not something to brag about or include as part of a treble with the proper tournaments.

Oh sorry, to win the World Club Championship, they had to win two full games against the mighty Monterray and Flamengo (both of which their strongest eleven managed to make a meal of).
