Didnt they only start to use the term scouse in the 40's it was a derogatory term. As it meant someone who is poor.
In fact the dish's origins are claimed by the Danes I think and there is a dish famous in the port of Hamburg called Lobscouse which is a corned been hash so in a way he could have been said to have been eating a German dish
