The rags under Busby were known to be pro Catholic so attracting those Irish Republican fans like Celtic. Some wrongly interpreted this as City being pro Rangers.

The Liverpool success from the 1970's split the Irish support. Those legacy fans attend games and still influence the media. The Rags v Red Dipper rivalry is on the wane as is their narrative, overtaken by City with our new history.
The Rags/Liverpool rivalry is still a thing in Asia and USA but City are rapidly catching up in terms of fanbase, especially in the states. When I went to school in the Manchester in the 70s City and United fans both hated Liverpool and Everton because of their feral fanbases but the main football rivalry was always City v United.

When the rags say that we weren't their derby it was just dig at how bad we were, it was a way of insulting us.

If you're a rag from Manchester it has always been the Manchester derby that mattered.

Yes being from Liverpool our rivalry has always been with the toffees they were the team you always wanted to beat. The rivalry with United grew up based on jealousy on both sides.. they were jealous of us winning all the trophies and we were jealous of no matter what we won United kept getting all the headlines, can remember us beating Benfica in the European Cup quarters one year in the stadium of light 4 - 1 and next morning papers were headlining Bryan Robsons dislocated shoulder.

I have zero doubt uefa fucked up & the French authorities were useless twats. However no other club would have the fucking manager telling fans to go without tickets in the buildup and no other club would have had so many ticketless twats trying to get in to the determent of their own genuine fans. You would expect especially after Hillsborough genuine fans would police the jibbers but every big game they get to its the same. Almost like a badge of honour. Thousands of city fans went to Istanbul without tickets but they didn't enmasse try to get into the stadium, they looked for any spares and watched the game in bars pubs etc like every other club in a similar position and savoured the pre and post match atmosphere.
As someone put it the other day, of all the events that have been hosted by Stade de France, since it opened, only one has had problems.

Have you got issues with tragedy posting now?
Nope not at all.. my footballing era was 1970s and 80s no way is stuff being chanted today gonna offend me.. always found it to be part and parcel of the game really, I grew up with values of sticks and stones mantra not with this sanitised footballing environment we see now. I personally don’t sing stuff like that but if people want to sing it then it’s up to them.

You can always fuck off back to RAWK where you're only allowed to say certain things. Feel free to exit.
Listen don’t insult me linking me with that forum, that lot are on a completely different planet to local Liverpool fans, they sum up everything wrong with modern day football supporters,
