Liverpool Thread | 2024/25

You are showing your lack of knowledge again. Teams are forced to sit back as City have majority of possession including against Klopps but teams who are dangerous in transitions are dangerous. Every season we’d be exposed but normally first half of the season.

Rags, Spurs, Palace, Brentford, Wolves & yourselves have exposed us with their kick & rush style a few times but typically you think everyone rolls over.
Unfortunately you have just shown your lack of knowledge. I’ll take you back to that game at the Etihad where you beat us 2-1 which I think most of us unanimously agree was the highest level of quality the premier league has seen.

Both teams and managers were at their absolute peak. Liverpool fractionally shaded the majority of possession (which was unheard of) and it was City that scored the winning goal in transition through Sane.

Liverpools goal was after a long spell of possession where they broke city down after dragging them all over the pitch.

No team went to the Etihad and gave it back to you like Liverpool did and that’s why we were treated to the highest quality of football.

1 game….. how many years ago out of how many?

Not last years bore fest but 1 game & you don’t think we’ve had games like that against other teams? When we’ve won titles from 2 down at 75 mins is that because teams don’t have a go.

Now in Pep’s 8 seasons you were competive for 4.

They're at it again

Pep in my opinion is the best manager the league has ever seen of course his system was world class. However Klopp created his own unique system that pushed it to the ultimate of heights and even got the better of it on quite a few occasions at least in the head to head matches.

Every time prime City played a premier league team the outcome resembled an attack versus defence training drill. I have never seen a team so dominant in games in the history of the premier league.

Until you played Liverpool who were the only team who didn’t sit back and gave as good as they got going back the other way. This resulted in what I believe was the highest level of quality premier league football matches ever played.

I mean am I wrong?

Personally, I'm sick of this bullshit narrative that Klopp 'built his own system'.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it pretty much seemed to me that Klopp was getting tonked before mirroring Guardiola's system which released the players he had into being better on the pitch. So, in turn, using Guardiola's playing system with tweaks against him turned this into great games.

A lot of teams with good technical players have done this to us over the years as the team has aged, so the Dippers aren't the only ones, just more consistent at it.

In my opinion, if City weren't playing a crazy amount of games every year, you'd see the quality held up. It's the amount of games and years of the same players that is making us look poor at the moment.

Since Klopp and Pep have both been in England across all competitions they have faced off 22 times with Liverpool winning 8 to Citys 6. The rest have ended in draws with the exception of a City penalty shoot out win in the community shield. You can claim that if you want?

So what does this tell us? That between the two teams head to head there was nothing in it.

Each match up was basically a toss of the coin as to who would win and most times it ended in a draw anyway. You try make as many excuses as you want but Liverpool were a fantastic side and pushed another fantastic side beyond its limits.

Except Liverpool could be playing against City at their peak and score 3 goals in quick succession and effectively finish the contest. No other team was doing that. Pep himself said that Liverpools attack terrified him.

Klopp was a spiteful and aggressive **** of an individual when things weren't going his way, who simply ingratiated himself to your supporters.

Tbh that is a pretty low bar when taking account of the fickle and shallow nature of your fans who are deluded, entitled and desperate to be acknowledged as being something they clearly are not. The media plays a massive part in over-hyping the support when like others they are silent and offer nothing when things are not going their way.

However Klopp was fawned over due to their irrational beliefs and cultish levels of behaviour.
Well done - Absolutely nailed it

Call and I shall re-appear from the (relative) safety of "Off Topic".
I'm sorry to say that night shifts this week prevented me from getting online last night and indulging in my "triumphant gobshite" persona!

I only actually got to watch the first half last night before havig to drive in to work. What was spooky to my mind was that we scored just as I was heading over the Glenshane pass, exactly the same as when Gini scored against Barca. I'm thinking at the risk of missing watching it I may have to plan night shifts/commutes more carefully.

My personal take on last night was that RM were poor. Shorn of Rodrygo/Vini/Carvajal etc they werent the attacking threat you would normally expect. Therefore you cannot start going on about being best in Europe or World as I heard Agbonlahor say this morning...and Im sure I am like many of you lot...Gabby is a tosser. I think Trent being injured for last night was a bonus as Bradley is a far better defender. I bet Mbappe was hoping Trent would play!

At the level we are all playing at, it is only small margins that make the difference and as much as things are going well at present, they have gone well and up until 6-7 games ago, had gone well for City. So it can all change very quickly.

As @cheekybids says, you havent turned into a bad team overnight and once more players get back from injury the city machine will click back into gear. take Rodri, that massive cog in the middle out, and you may be able to put a lesser substitute in there, but then take out so many others who provide Rodris back up out, and you are bound to face issues. The coaching and the skills level of the players doesnt change, its just finding a way to tweak to fix that temp issue. An issue that we/Liverpool could equally face next week or in a months time.

I said it a few weeks back. I still recall that night at Palace and seeing Gerrard slip...so take absolutely nothing for granted.

I still think it should be a good game on Sunday and still think it will be our toughest game of the season. Even if we do win on Sunday and its 11 points, or even if it were 15 points...its still not even Christmas and all could change if we then go on dont win for 6-7 games in a row.

Now......where was I...."When you walk through a storm........"
I'll gte my coat....
A sensible scouser who’d have thought that was possible
