Exactly why.

I don't understand it. He's seen out his contract, never downed tools or kicked up a fuss to force a move.

All you can ask for any player is to honour a contract unless they're sold and not phone it in when they're playing. As long as they do that and then want to leave, then good luck to them.

Exactly.

Many of us wanted the Yorkshire clogger to sign a new contract, and were unhappy that he left on a free and even more unhappy that he joined Littlewoods, but I don’t recall him receiving death threats from any City fan, let alone hoards of us.
 
I'm just after remembering that they won the league.
With the top 5 stuff and the champions league matches, it had slipped to the back of my mind.

Don't worry, this isn't lost on the rest of the Liverpool players. They are seeing exactly why Liverpool supporters are the most despised and hated fans in the country. Imagine if Salah had gone to Saudi. He would have got absolutely slaughtered by the cult.
