Calling @Octavian …
That's true. I can't believe that someone even less-suited to leadership than Johnson (Liz Truss) can become Prime Minister on the say so of a tiny very partisan section of the population without the other 65 million adults having a vote. Still that's the way Gordon Brown got in and we still have 757 unelected toadies in the House of Lords making decisions on our lives. That's not democracy but don't expect anyone in the two-party cartel to change anything. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas. And so on and on it goes, century after century. Still we make good TV period dramas so everything's rosy. I can't wait for the next repeats of Dads' Army. The system we have allows a talentless clown like Johnson to surround himself with incompetents in order to limit challenges. He had to break several conventions before he was forced to go.
New health secretary.
All true but surely this conveyor belt of utterly useless Arseholes has to stop -we’ve got a PM now who most people would have laughed at 12 mths ago when she was poncing about on Tanks as Foreign Secretary and didn’t even know various established parts of Russia when Sergei Lavrov quizzed her about Sovereignty over these areasThat's true. I seem to remember many in the Labour ranks stating that they wanted X-Party committee set-up but the government were having none of it.Agreed the system is fucked. There was a chance for a cross-party effort, perhaps even an all-party war cabinet, to tackle the Covid crisis. But no one had the vision or the courage to try it. A total lack of leadership. The main parties are so partisan they will sacrifice the country just to win or cling on to power for themselves. They really don't give a shit. They claim their own fuel and transport costs on expenses. We really do live in the past as a nation. We deserve better.
and on cue
I don't know how old you are but this conveyor belt of tossers has been running for most of my life. I was born in 1959. There is a structural problem with our politics which means most normal people are excluded from the process. Nowadays politics (especially at Westminster) is dominated by careerists and privileged wankers and the national media which is supposed to hold them to account is mostly populated by the same sort of people. Essentially, apart from one or two brief periods, the country has been going backwards for decades. All true but surely this conveyor belt of utterly useless Arseholes has to stop -we’ve got a PM now who most people would have laughed at 12 mths ago when she was poncing about on Tanks as Foreign Secretary and didn’t even know various established parts of Russia when Sergei Lavrov quizzed her about Sovereignty over these areas
