Local Non-League Thread

What an ending, you have to feel for the team who missed out today as part of me thinks they won't win the playoffs.

Got a sneaky feeling for Southend.

From York's perspective if they'd have lost today to get 203 points over 2 seasons and not get promoted would have been really harsh.

Both clubs submitted a statement before the game about advocating for 3 up 3 down from League 2 & the National League and I agree with this.

For me we should have 4 x EFL divisions of 20 teams, 46 games in the EFL is too many.

Just watched at Wealdstone, mad stuff. 11pts clear of third, this is the sort of situation where playoffs seem wrong.

Gutted. Hope Dale can rally and get the job done in the playoffs but not confident they will. The rules have to change to 2 automatically or ideally 3 plus a play off spot but not confident Parry and the EFL clubs would sanction that. That's what happens when you have a soulless accountant with an agenda in charge of a football league.

Congratulations York.

If you were the third relegation placed team in League 2 and were having your place taken by a team that hasn't had to abide by any financial controls and had extended transfer windows etc. you wouldn't be very happy would you.

People will say York have accumulated 200 points plus over the past two seasons and nearly didn't get promoted again but their budget dwarfs most league 2 teams. The player scoring the winner today cost them about £350k and would be right up their in terms of top earners in league 2.

Until the National League fall into line with the restrictions and controls that the EFL have then there isn't even a conversation to have IMO.

Email the EFL.
Trust me still better than relying on being voted in!
(I hasten to add I'm not supporting the current position - but all leagues with playoffs can end in this situation. Also it's happened previously with Wrexham and Notts County)

Appreciate it can happen at any level but I think the reason this seems to happen more in the National League is because there's not enough churn, so there are too many good teams at the top of the NL not getting the opportunity in the football league.

Demonstrated by the fact York got 90 points last year and didn't go up. I've felt since that Notts C - Wrexham match that there should be 3 going up and 3 going down. Even if the 3rd team has to go via a play-off with 22nd in League Two or something like that.
