Ok you brainy bunch.

Bert, Dave and Steve pend a night in a hotel on a fishing trip. They each pay £10 upfront for the shared room which was £30.

The following morning, Ramone, the desk clark told them that their room rate had been quoted incorrectly an should of only been £25.

Ramone made an offer seeing as £5 didn't split easy.

He gave each of the men £1 refund and placed the remaining £2 in the charity box.

Everyone was happy.

HOLD ON

SOMETHNG NOT QUITE RIGHT HERE

Each man got a £1 refund which meant they actually paid £9 each.

3 x 9 = £27

The desk clark put £2 in the charity box

Where has the extra £1 gone????

What extra £1, he's got £2 change out of the £5 he's giving back.
It's not £9 each, it's £8.33 and 1/3 pence each.

If they pay £9 each they've collectively overpaid by £2

If it was me and my mates he gives us the £5 back and it goes in the beer kitty.

Nope.

Each paid £8.33 (except Bert who got fleeced for £8.34), that being £25 divided by 3. Each was entitled to change from their tenner of £1.67 (except for Bert) of which they kept £1 for themselves and put 67p in the charity box.

The moral of the story is of course that the people masquerading as Berts friends were in fact a pair of utter ****s who ripped him off at the first opportunity.

It's a parable for the cellar, really.

but if each guy got £1 back, that meant they only paid £9 each for their room. 3x9=27 so that means there should be £3 to be put in the charity box not the £2 that Ramone put in

Was there a scouser working in the hotel?

But the room was £25 and £27-£25 is £2 which went in the charity box.
