Longest time in one job

20 years at a large pizza makers, working in warehouse. 19 years on night-shift, started on mornings at beginning of the year...BIG change, but enjoying it...

35 and a half years in Enterprise IT - the company that I originall joined has been taken over / renamed 8 times over that period - in 18 months time I think that will be it - I have always enjoyed my job, never got bored, worked all over the world, in amongst industries and public sector locations that I could have never believed - and made a difference along the way - I'm going to bet that a good three quarters of the membership of bluemoon (and ragcafe) have had their lives touched by something I've been involved in over those 35 years.

Nearly 11 years, and I have taken voluntary redundancy I leave at the end of the month buzzing. Straight into a new job 5th of Jan no messing about.

No way are they still making redundancies. I was same situation as you 2 years ago and did very well out of it and straight into a new job that paid more and better conditions.

I've just done 39 and a half ,and the company isn't too healthy at the moment so might be doing the same as you

14 years. Learned the trade inside and out and how the business was run. Left and started my own business and just copied how the other place had done things. Never looked back.

7 years, the last 2 of which were pretty hellish.

29 years a civil servant - various disciplines across the Department of Justice.

Going down to 4 days next March then all being well the GLW hits 60 in two years and we both go down to 3.

10..which for me is a personal record. I usually get the seven year itch, well every seven years I suppose and go for a complete change.

Actually I lied....after reading all the others, technically I've not been employed/had a job since 1998, when I was a team leader come fork lift truck driver in a warehouse in Wythenshawe. Everything after that has been self employment, as in setting up different businesses and buying and renting out properties.Worked all hours god sent, got divorced but now doing 3 days a week and looking at retirement square in the face. Maybe a long break and something else will turn up.

22 years at Dunlop Footwear here in Winsford, Cheshire where I worked my way up the ladder from Warehouse Op to Customer Service Supervisor and then Goods Inwards Foreman.
Took redundancy as I couldn`t stand the thought of being behind those four walls for another 26 years.
Then gained my Awards in being an NVQ Assessor and Internal Verifier (no jokes please) and worked for the TEC where we drew Government Funding to help young people gain there NVQs in Warehousing & Distribution and Fork Lift Truck.
Loved my job but had to take early retirement due to my back problems.

Joined as Depty Head Greenkeeper. Then 18 or so years as Head Greenkeeper, then made redundant.

Well the grass certainly wasn`t any greener for you. ;)

No way are they still making redundancies. I was same situation as you 2 years ago and did very well out of it and straight into a new job that paid more and better conditions.

Due to an office move this one mate, they want everyone in 2 days a week in the city centre.

Redundancy hey.....I offered to take redundancy from my job in Wythenshawe but they said I hadn't been there long enough to get anything. I did them a favour and handed my notice in, never looked back although I did enjoy the job.

13 yrs at the current place, 8yrs, 10yrs and 2yrs in my previous places of work. Doing everything from being chief cook and bottle washer in a small business to Engineering Director with a veritable army of direct and indirect reports in a global business, working on a whole host of major national and international projects.
