Losing My Job

Hi everybody.

I was informed on Friday last week that my department at work is to undergo a 2 week "consultation period" with a view to restructuring and myself probably losing my position as manager. They have asked me if I would be willing to drop back down to the lowest level (I will lose over £6000 p.a.) and I have told them that there is no way I will consider this. In light of this, they have offered me 3 months redundancy money if I am unsuccessful in my second meeting to convince them of the merits of myself remaining as manager.

Any advice please as I was going to demote one of my supervisors when I first started the role and was told that I couldn't as he would probably leave and claim constructive dismissal. I am able to do the same?
Speak to your union rep.

ACAS are usually good with these things, worth giving them a call Monday to Friday office hours.

I'm no expert here, but I think you have a case.

1. If they're splitting your job between other two then they should/could say there's two jobs and three people. They should/could open that to competition. You might say "but I wouldn't get one of the jobs" in which case it's unfair and they've chosen to get rid of you.
2. I think they have to give you 90(?) days consultation period advising that your role is at risk. They should advise you of the criteria for selecting who will lose the job which you can challenge. Can't be on things not in your contract or job description, e.g. being a blue. If they've already decided you're out then they would normally pay you the 90 days, not 60 days pay.

I would say you are seeking professional advice and see what they say. They might get nervous and make a better offer. Normally third offer is as far as they'll go. You are in danger of taking opening offer.

I'm assuming there's no clear reason they want you gone - inappropriate behaviour, bad work, boss is a red, etc.
As someone said, don't give them a reason to fire you. Work your hours, don't check dodgy sites, do your job as contract/JD says.

Ultimately, you're gone. They don't want you.
Make getting a good written reference part of the deal. Move onwards and upwards. Best of luck.

sorry mate but this is karma you stated in your opening post you were going to demote someone when you became manager! you reap what you sow..

I just wanted a general opinion on the shitty situation I currently find myself in, that was all mate. If any mods want to close the thread, then please do.
Who’s given you the impression that the thread should be closed?? It’s far better than some of other threads on here!
