Lovejoy's Referee Idea

brilliant idea, this is the way football officiating needs to go, exactly the same techniques as rugby union.

This and totally this
I've been saying it for years

We could also use a citing officerto get dirty little cheats off the ball like evra done retrospectively

It's not his idea. Countless people have been saying this for years and years. I'm in total agreement.

They should also call the referee sir and say please and thank you. (No I'm not taking the piss).

Adams would have been booked for questioning the ref's decision even before he called him a cheat if it was up to me. If he'd said 'as captain, can we have a quiet word' then waited for things to calm down and asked for an explanation, after considering the referee's reason he'd then be justified in saying 'I think you're mistaken there sir' or 'would you discuss that with the linesman please'. Only captains allowed to question the decision though supported by the player who was involved, had the best view etc.

It's no wonder the England team have such a poor disciplinary record for dissent.

As long as that bent fucker at Fifa is still running the show then things like this isnt going to happen. Of course it would clean up the game and people will know why the player is getting booked and what for. Another thing I would like to see is the ref giving a interview at the end of the games if there is any poor decisions and why they gave the decision or why it wasnt given. Sadly Fifa will never let any stuff like that happen for a long long time. It has worked wonders in every other sport that uses it.

I am sure a sin bin has been mentioned as well, send the guy off whilst video is viewed by 4th official, if red, he stays off. For verbal abuse, send him off for 10 minutes or whatever. Players would soon engage brain.

Totally agree with yellow/red cards for verbal abuse but video technology for anything else except whether the ball is over the line or not I dont agree with.

i think anything game changing should be available to challenge with video say one appeal per half per team as in cricket.if your right you keep your appeal if not you lose it

this is absolutely brilliant, it works in rugby and it tells the crowd what the ref`s thoughts are for making decisions, so why not.

it`s common sense.

it will never happen
You're right it will never happen as players think it's ok to swear at refs.

I'm a serving soldier and when we play if you use any form of foul or abusive language or question the ref then you're off with no questions asked and you may get a fine from your CO for misbehaving.

I certainly don't want my kids listening to idiots like Rooney losing their rag cos they don't get a decision. Let's face it he loses the plot even when he scores.
