Politicians constantly changing things. It’s very hard to keep up, no wonder there are so many Lawyers. I swear with a lot of politicians they must stare out of the window and think of a vanity project they can get their teeth in to in order to leave their mark on life.

In fairness, the politicians are thinking these ideas up while staring out of the window in one of the subsidised bars in Westminster……

Pretty much correct, same as people looking for promotion in companies/services...."I changed/introduced A/B/C, it was great"....nobody ever checks, which if they did, would realise it was ridiculous, or doesn't work, ....yet promotes them. Others need to justify their job (usually on big money)often because the best decision is to get rid of that job, as it's not required, and was 'invented' as a 'job for the boys' ;)

Worked at a kids home in Tampa. Everything was fine, staff worked very well together. All of a sudden 2 supervisors were appointed and naturally they sat there dreaming of ways to change things that didn’t need changing.
One day they announced “even though the state of Florida says children aged 13 and over can sit in the front passenger seat, we are going to say they have to be 14 or above”.
I asked at the staff meeting “how long did you spend discussing that idea?” to much laughter from the room apart from 2 frowns from the supervisors…….
One of them did the decent thing after a few weeks and quit, saying the post was not needed and they had to do all this crap to justify the position. She was never replaced though the other one got more power mad

Disagree....currently it's 1 pint is usually OK "so a 2nd won't hurt" or "can get away with a 2nd" is common, if it was Zero, most wouldn't risk any.....however much someone can drink, or little they think it affects them, the fact is, any amount of alcohol reduces everyones reaction time...even theirs.
If someone argues about zero tolerance...they have a problem....with alcohol. There is simply no need to drink if driving...ever.

Interesting to hear that. I just asked Gemini to give me a quick history lesson on beer abv in this country and basically as you say it was around 3-4% in the 70s/80s then rose up to 5% or more as the standard in the 90s and now it's for various reasons going back down again.

I'm going to be perfectly honest here and I know people are going to call me the lowest of the low, a selfish **** and worse.

I play pool twice a week and have done for over 20 years. I always have 4 or 5 pints over the course of 4 hours then drove home. I've been pulled by the police once in all this time and was under the limit.

I've never had an accident or near miss in all this time. You drive slowly and safely to not draw attention to yourself.

I did stand-up in the UK from 2003 to 2016 and always had a few pints 5 or 6 nights a week all over the country. Only ever got pulled once by the police once right outside a venue.

In my experience you're only getting done for drink driving if you have an accident. The chances of a random pull while you're over the limit are a million to one

Absolutely agree with you in this regard. If you're over the limit get a taxi.

But if you're under the limit the cost is astronomical. I just checked now on the price of an Uber. My 15 minute journey to work would cost £12.50 each way by Uber.

So if I were to have a drink after work and get a taxi home and then a taxi in tomorrow it would add £25 just for having one drink.

I don't think anyone can justify making a £6 pint a £31 pint.

But alcohol varies in ABV your levels could be going up or down it’s still a gamble lots of factors to consider
Well if the person lives miles away one drive the other drink and vice versa there is always a way

I have pals in London and Northamptonshire once every 3 months we all get the various trains in and meet in London start about 13:30 get the 20:30 back not a problem

The increase in speed cameras coupled with a reduction in traffic police has failed. It cut accidents at camera spots but they went up in other places. Bad weather and poor lighting is a huge factor and so are potholes, especially for bikes. The road safety lobby is just another gravy train and cameras are for raising money.
