Lyon (H) - Post Match Thread

tbh i hated actually being at the game tonight. the whole thing was catered towards corporates/tourists. every chance there was adverts about hospitality or luxury breaks. the atmosphere is just so bad now. id get more enjoyment just being at home then sitting in silence. it didnt feel like going to a city match tonight at all

Ironically it seems I was complacent about complacency setting in.

The intensity, coordination and concentration just isn't there at the moment.

It only takes one or two being off the pace to disrupt the rhythm of the side and then people get sloppy, and at the moment we seems to have 3 or 4 not at the races yet.

I think we learned a few things tonight:

Ndombele is a beast and could be the midfielder we are lacking.

Gael Clichy is a better attacking left back than Delph

Jesus needs to drastically up his game or we need to look for another striker. He goes missing way too much.

Fekir is a very decent player.

I don’t see how you can criticise Delphs attacking qualities when he started majority of our games last season at left back and many thought he was good for the balance of team. If anything’s to blame for this seasons shaky start, it’s Pep trying to experiment with formations and different players. Just play the same set up as last season. Sane and Sterling on the wings, with Bernardo and Silva creating in the middle.

We all love Pep to bits but he should never be beyond criticism. His team selection was baffling tonight, im sure im not the only one that was sceptical before kick off when the team was announced.

Certainly not. Poor team selection tonight, would love to know what he was thinking. I wanted Sane on at half time, when he did come on he changed the game but it was too little, too late. No idea what Jesus has done recently to deserve his start and he hardly showed gratitude with a good performance tonight. Yeah, yeah Lyon played OK but we lost because we didn't play nearly as good as were capable.
cause they run up bloody hill to the ball great idea
What is the reason for that, does anyone know?

Weird. We were sort of good in patches. But the intensity and pace were missing. Gu do fan was the best of are midfielders and it should have been fern substituted. I don't think the end is near for fern. But I suspect he is no longer a two or three fans in a week player. The sterling sub was not u derstoid either he was are best attacking threat. Although I can see why pep only has two forwards at the club, I think a lack of competition in that part of squad may tell. Not strengthening in midfield may also be a problem that will haunt us. I agree totally with an earlier post though, with the amount of games coming pep was right to rotate. I think some have got a little too drunk on are success. This is City, did you honestly think we were gonna make it easy. On to the next one.!

Another good example of one you need to proofread mate. Unless you’ve been literally getting drunk on our success, in which case I’ll forgive you.

Where to start?

Poor team selection. Leroy and Sergio (if he was fully fit, and as he was on the bench, there’s nothing to suggest he wasn’t) should both have started instead of the two - Ilkay and Gabriel - they replaced. It was a bad decision by Pep. This makes the task of qualifying for the knockout stages more complicated.

A lot of the players were off the boil tonight and both Lyon goals were the result of atrocious defending .

That will teach me to expect City to win.
