Lyon relegated to Ligue 2

I didn’t read it that way, until you clarified it.

Maybe it was me being dumb, which isn’t an unusual occurrence.
Same here. Probably the use of the hyphen in this case. 2021-2022 suggests from and to.

If you meant from that season, you'd normally write it from 2021/22.

But why does their debt keep growing if it's controlled ? United have no intention of clearing the debt or managing it,
Why do all the members vote to keep them at the top table? It's a joke. Everybody can see the mess United are in and turn a blind eye, the media dare not question them and use City as a smoke screen for anything bad in football falls at our door.

When City beat the 115 charges, I want us to call for a revamp of all the rules in the Premier League, have the right people with the right rules and get United Liverpool Chelsea Arsenal away from control of the voting, How can them clubs be top dogs and make the rules when their own club are in a right mess and in big debt
Because too many PL clubs follow the German model, only instead of allowing Bayern to dominate and hoping to pick up the scraps, PL clubs are happy to let the rags, Dippers and Arse (and possibly Chelsea) dominate in a similar way.
Our success, and the potential of Newcastle, means fewer scraps for the rest. You can sell domestic and global TV rights because of the rags, dippers, arse etc, and 93:20, centurions and 4-in-a-row, gets us a pass, but our success reduces the chances of another title for the likes of Leicester, Blackburn or Leeds.
The Premier league is run by the clubs. It was formed due to the greed of five clubs. It was never meant to be run for the benefit of English club football.

The French league has had a fairly rigorous series of financial regulation in place for a good while. ai shall tell again the story that I lived in Nantes in 1992 when that club was demoted for financial reasons (though I couldn't find out what they were!) but then reinstated on appeal. It might have been debt, but ... Lyon may be reinstated though I doubt it. Their revenue for 2023-4 was 361.4 million euros and they were 422million euros in debt. The debt was 25% higher than it had been in the previous year.

Financial regulation of clubs in France appear very harsh - Bordeaux have been relegated from the national league for financial reasons (debt levels) - but at least they do seem to accept that debt is a far greater threat to the "sustainability" of a club than spending and the problems of both clubs seem to have been getting worse for a period of years. God forbid that any English club should ever have debts totalling 422 million euros and be unable to reduce them (though I think Bordeaux were considerably lower.) The PL would surely do something about it.

Maybe City might be insisting thet if the PL wants to control spending it must also seek another "sporting exception" to control debt as part of an accepted part of "PSR" regulations, and stop protecting the real cheats and financial basket cases. And then insist that clubs submit ALL their accounts.

I still don't understand why the so-called small clubs listen and vote for their changes ? it does nothing for them other than slowing down the inevitable drop and relegation, The parachute payments are what save the smaller clubs, but it's a yoyo effect, the gap just gets bigger and bigger from the rest.

United/Liverpool doesn't care about anybody but themselves. Football and Grassroots are for somebody else to fix
The Premier League and its voting system is set up to scare the smaller clubs in dare you vote against us

But its now 2025, and United and Liverpool don't rule the roost, 2 other clubs are making more money than them.
it's now time for a change and challenge the rules and its voting system and become fair to all the clubs

Extraordinary, ridiculous, and sad situation. Unbelievable that they've been so badly run. Not at all long ago they were still in the CL. The drop down from First Division to Second is huge in France. Much bigger than the drop from the Premier League to the Championship (which is already big).
The OL group owns a 59,000 seat stadium. Just crazy.

Demoting Lyon just shows the FFP rules are a joke and useless.
Letting Lyon run up a debt of over £400million or clubs like United Liverpool Chelsea Barcelona Madrid even in worst debt is a joke.

Lets start punishing more clubs and demoting them because their debt is never going to be cleared or controlled
United debt is £1.5billion and they are still spending ? That debt is so big that it could buy all the clubs in League 1 and 2 and still have some change

And they'll use the magical cure all phrase "Serviceable debt" to screw their way around it.

Yep serviceable until the banks want the money back !

It’s a disgrace, but the media and the league itself turn a blind eye to it all,now if it’s another club say villa or Fulham with that amount of debt they’d be hammered hard ..
