M.C.F.C V Barcelona

Hahaha, we got beat off United in the Community Shield and people on here were writing us off as not ready to challenge for the title. No team spirit, a lack of cohesion, Dzeko was the worst signing of all time etc. etc.

A week later and a good performance against a newly promoted team who are odds on to go down. Now we are suddenly ready to beat Barcelona, Dzeko is the best striker in the world, Tevez is useless and we are going to walk the Prem this year.

Lets have a bit of perspective eh?

Ok some Cule perspective here.

I think you are not yet ready to challenge us. You have some great players in your team and look quite good defensively. But we play completly different way to most of your players are used to. Your 2 CBs will be wondering all game long searching for a player they could mark. Your midfield will be no match if you play 3 or 4 players. You must play 5 midfielders and 4 defenders, which will make place for only 1 striker.

You might get there, but this seasson isn't the right time if you are looking to defeat us. We play as a team with probably 5/6 top 10 best players in the world. When we gain some match fitness, we will again see the hard pressing game which was no existent yesterday.

My advice to you will be to keep things in perspective and take one step a time. First win the league and beat ManU and make us all proud.

I'd buy that for a dollar.

Yeah just reading your post it makes me feel better, in one of the threads last night someone remarked "teves is mor important than NDJ, if you think otherwise you need a check up".

I replied that i think he is wrong and long story short Tevez WAS more important for us maybe but not now.

So me agreeing with yours and i assume everyone elses idea on tactics if we meet them, does NDJ not seem far more important a player than Tevez now ?

Please someone vindivate me saying that about Tevez i dont want to be the crazy :<

well i think it depends on who we are playing, but
i'd say de jong is more important, yes tevez scored a
lot of goals in the last two seasons but you saw in the semi
that the goal that won us the game came from somewhere
else and goals will come from elsewhere when hes not playing,
we have a lot of players who are capable. when he is playing
everything seems to go to him, when hes not silva is the magician
who dictakes things
.

de jong takes the pressure off other players going forward, it allows
other players a sort of freedom so the likes of yaya can go for it
on his charging runs. add the fact of aguero who i'm predicting to bag
more than a handful this term, tevez as far as im concerned
can leave. don't get me wrong if we get tevez playing again
if only for this season, it will obviously be a huge bonus and could be
the difference between 2nd and 1st.

err...slight correction, Silva is a magician irrespective of who plays.. tho when Tevez plays he's the majority recipient of Silva passes, probably because he's able to anticipate them and they understand each other very well...that role is being taken over like for like by Aguero, but if i ever see Tevez, Aguero and Silva playing in a match together ill know that it's going to be a high scoring match..

yeah i'd probably agree with that mate, when tev's
playing most things end up going to him (mostly from silva)
but when he's not it seems silva feeds everyone through.
but like you say silva, tevez and aguero.... fuck me that would
cause some damage.

-- Thu Aug 18, 2011 3:10 pm --

yeah good post mate. we're definitely not ready yet.
We could play an effective 3-5-2 or similar if we can develope a DM who can fall back into a CB role, similar to how Pep has playedMascherano.

We will beat them once if we get them in the champions league. They are good but they aren't unbeatable.

Are you serious? If you play 3 in back with 5 midfielders, Messi will drop back creating a situation of 4 midfielders vs your 5 and Villa and Pedro will have a field day behind your 3 defenders when Xavi, Messi and iniesta hit those inch perfect through balls.

I think you missed my point. Our DM would fall back in your scenario to play CB, Dzeko would fall back to midfield, effectively changing our formation to 4-5-1 with Aguerro at the half line for a counter attack. We could even have 6 in midfield with a forward staying back and a CB/DM moving up. You haven't even addressed our LB and RB and the role they can play controlling midfield and getting the ball forward. No, I think we can, and very likely WILL HOUSE YOU!

I've been reading many posts over the last few days/weeks about how good we'll do in the CL and how nobody will want to be drawn in the same group as us.
But we are a team that is still learning and bonding and part of that process is inconsistency, which will hold us back this season from reaching our full potential.
Real Madrid are maybe one/two years ahead of us in rebuilding their team/squad and Barca are maybe three/five years ahead of us.
Our time will come we just need to be patient, learn and improve our consistency.
We will reach the very top level its inevitable given the resources but it is going to take time.
Unfortunately along the way we will have our disappointments and meeting either Barca or Madrid in this season CL will be one of those disappointments, as defeat would be all I could see.

I reckon we'd get hammered away and barely be able to touch the ball. Hopefully they won't repeat the amount the diving against Real Madrid.

But at home, if either De Jong or Kompany is able to tackle Messi, we might have a chance, especially if Aguero and Tevez played together. Silva might be able to unlock their defence and both Yaya and Johnson would be an attacking threat as well.

Thoughts?

Loadsa people commenting on Barca v Madrid match. New thread for just us versus Barcelona.

My opinion is that over two legs no chance, but if we get to the knockouts and pull them then maybe on our best night.

We are quite capable of fluking a win over Barcelona ....... if they don't know that themselves then they really do know nothin' of our history ...... our history is absolutely littlered with results that were unexpected beforehand!

Jose Mourinho proved with Inter that you don't need to touch the ball long to beat Barca. The issue he has with Real is that he hadn't found the central players that could press and push forward. Alonso was one, but Khedira and Lass are not used to playing alongside one another. Most of these dms are unused to being paired with each other.

Mourinho was successful against Barca when he was able to open a gap between the midfield and the backline. Of the hundreds of passes per game they have 50% are knocking it around at close distance. Barca aren't unstoppable. Just advanced. To beat them will take a forward way of thinking from a much smarter man.

Nobody will want to be in our group because we are in pot 3, compared to the others in pot 3 we have the vastly superior squad of players. If we do get to the later rounds we will probably be the team people with similar squads want to draw due to the inexperience. I just think it's amazing that people think that we would stand a chance against Madrid or Barca over two legs. Anyone else in Europe and I'll be backing us but these two are on another planet.
