Madrid Away

Have to concur where the Paris Police are concerned - behave yourself and have a laugh they're actually one of the best Police forces I've encountered abroad
Spanish Police on the other hand - you could give them 100euro and they'd still happily give you a beating. That and the fact they hide behind balaclavas and shit. Remember being bussed back after Santander (which was a brilliant day out and their supporters were excellent) to be confronted by Jack booted Police looking for an excuse to give it out
If that was the Santander game about 15 years ago then I disagree about their fans. I was sat next to them and behind me were the young City players in casual gear with club logos who had probably played earlier, cant really remember. Anyway between us and their fans was an tall perspex screen which if they had got through there would have been carnage. I thought they were as bad as Madrid fans who I sat near on bottom level once in VIP seats, who until they got the two late goals that won the game for them were going ballistic at us. The Madrid fans and the police who came in for a City fan were looking for blood. Not been to Madrid since they won with that Bale goal and don't think I will be going again.

I might be completely wrong but I remember the mood turning sour when we scored late on as it effectively knocked them out of the competition, made funnier as we were already through. They did'nt take it very well.

I see Newcastle have formally complained to Uefa about the treatment of their fans at the hands of the French cops last night.
I don't think City have ever complained about any of the many times our fans have been assaulted.
(Who was the Chairman of a Football League club but a City fan, who was battered as he crossed the road in Madrid ?)
Sadly Blues you will be on your own again for this trip, the club won't say a word.
He was the Charlton FC chairman I think. I was at that bar minutes before. It was very busy so we moved on and found somewhere quieter.

We were in a bar up the road watching loads of police vans screaming down the hill to the stadium. We then called in there oblivious to what had just happened but went downstairs for a pee & it was like an abattoir down there with blood on everywhere. Funnily enough the police seem to get better there over the years whilst in Barcelona, they definitely got worse.

Id avoid Plaza Mayor at the best of times , but the massive Christmas market is on there, making it even more over priced and over crowded . Loads of bars north of Gran Via and east of Sol , decent bars , decent prices and often food thrown in.
Always packed with Blues on a matchday, I love it personally.

Although I take your points, it is a little on the expensive side

Can’t beat getting off at the bernabeu
:) come on city back in February

That's the one Mark Slater. Viciously attacked for the crime of walking along a street.
City never said a word and if they don't say something after the Chairman of another club is attacked, they never will.

First European away game for me and my son - any tips? Do we need to avoid wearing city tops ?

Flying tomorrow morning.
As a general rule you're alright to wear club colours in Spain, Germany and Scandinavia.

Anywhere else I'd be cautious.

We're also flying tomorrow morning, we'll be heading over to the Plaza Mayor as there's always loads of Blues there. Apparently a few also heading to the Dubliner pub which is near the Plaza

I take it if city shirts are ok - joggers & trainers will be ok for the pubs? Since covid my wardrobe is made up entirely of hoodies & joggers
