Maffeo and Angelino loaned to Girona

I reckon these 2 going on loan is to ready them for next season. I think Pep sees the pair of them as our full backs next season. The only thing for me, is neither are tall.

I would be surprised if he saw the them as our first choice full backs next season. I expect that he will upgrade Maffeo to 2nd choice RB, behind a new signing who will play most weeks. But I agree that sending him out on loan would be good preparation for that role. I dont expect him to be playing week in week out next season, so getting a run of games under his belt now should be beneficial.

Well, while what you say it's true, I personally think you are overstating the physicality of the premier against Spain.

You can also argue that Spanish teams have more tactical awareness, so it could be something that pep is looking for: players that have played outside England and have a wider scope of what football is.

Absolutely and welcome to the forum.

Maffeo starts today for Girona. Angelino not even on the bench unfortunately.

That doesn't add up for me. Someone earmarked for next season would be more likely to either: (a) stay and be blooded in earnest, or (b) be loaned to a PL club or a foreign club closer to our own standing.

Welcome to the forum. And I agree with your points above especially about a wider scope of football. It is beyond me why no English footballer would not want to go abroad and learn a different style of football.

I can't see Angelino even making it at City as a back up option. I think it'll be tough for Maffeo too but if he plays out of his skin at Girona he might get the chance to be our back up next season. Good luck to them both though, I'd love to be proved wrong!

Maffeo looks like he can be a 1st team regular. Angelino wasn't too good when he was here in the states on loan, unfortunately I think his future lies elsewhere :(

Maffeo should be our 1st choice RB next season.

IMO, he is as good as Zaba if not better.
