Just seen this on the OS. Great and all that, but they claim picture 2:
Maine_road_kippax_1930s.jpg

is the Kippax in the 1930s, when it is the Main Stand ...and i even think that game pictured is United v Arsenal in the 1948.

In the 1930s this was what The Kippax looked like [across from where the picture is taken from, over on the right] (it had no roof!):

But some good pics, all the same. I can't believe it's been ten years since we left!

Picture 2 is the Kippax pictured from afar

My fave:

Correct. Those three rendered tunnels were the same ones that were there in 2003.

Brilliant little feature, so poignant to see pics of Maine Rd, still brings a tear to the eye 10 years on

wish i could have gone in those days.

The OP says the caption for the 1st one said Kippax Stand 1930's, it now says Main stand at 18:20.

They also say this picture was 1969 and that it would later be all seated. What the fuck are all those grey things in the stand then? People disguised as seats? When was the scoreboard end developed into the North Stand? 1970 or 1971? It was then all standing for 2 seasons before they put seats in, so this picture is taken at least after 1972. Do I remember them casting the concrete steps as they went along, with more (unopened) terracing there each week?

You're right - it's definitely 1972 or later. The stand was opened as a terraced stand in 1971 and the decision was taken to seat it late that year. Part of the reason was the Ibrox disaster of Jan 1971, although I do point out in Farewell To Maine Rd that it's more likely it was a financial decision. The grey seats were installed summer 1972 and in Sept 72 City announced the stand held 7,800.

Here's a picture of the North Stand in May 1971: https://www.facebook.com/GaryJames4?ref ... =3&theater Clearly no seats or full terracing.

As others have pointed out there are other errors with the photos. A couple I've not seen mentioned: the 1969 Main Entrance image is a few years later because the old rectangular Manchester City FC mosaic was still visible and had not been blocked in in 1969 and of course the caging didn't appear until later in the 1970s (I have a photo of it in 1971: https://twitter.com/GaryJamesWriter/sta ... 96/photo/1 though the image isn't too clear in this photo but it should give an idea); 2001 the Main Stand makeover - the photo may be from 2001 but the makeover was a few years earlier and fitted in with the new cladded Platt Lane (built 1993).

Just found this which was posted on Twitter as the Kippax but to me it looks more like 1981 semi at Villa. Am I going mad?
