is maine road a city run off team like FsCuM?
Not really, moreso a bunch of City fans who started a side to play for fun in the 1950's. Since then the club has progressed to Saturday football, and the dizzy heights of the North West Counties Premier Division (Level 9, taking the Premier League as Level 1).
I follow them because, quite simply, they're the side closest to my house. They play Tuesday nights a lot, too, so as i'm a fan of football at all levels, it's an extra game i can get to. Last season, when we were in Europe and playing a lot of games on Sundays, i got into a nice little pattern of watching 'Road Saturday & Tuesday, and then City Thursday and Sunday.
Quite a few of the regulars at Maine Road are City seasoncard holders, or ex-season ticket holders, and they've been bearing the name, colours & badge for years and years. If you're free and fancy seeing a good game for what, an hours wages, then do pop down. If not, i'd always try and encourage people to support their local non-league side aswell as City. Obviously City comes first, but you'd be surprised at the quality as you drop down the footballing pyramid. Lots of good players, clubs with history, nice little grounds where you can meet all sort of colourful characters. You don't necessarily have to be supporting a side to watch a good game and to get value for your hard-earned, it's nice to get around the grounds, tick them off, there are so many to see, from superstadiums that seat tens of thousands, to a cabbage patches, it's all part of the beautiful game, in my opinion.
A game, a programme, a pie & a brew for £8. Can't grumble, really.
