Maine Road

Wonder did the temperance movement have any objections about having a stadium and the pubs being built ( I know the Claremont was built in late 20s not sure about the others).

Secondly did moving from hyde road effect the crowds demographic seeing that lot of people were unhappy with the move.

Didn't Eddie Large live on Maine Road as a kid?

I was just about to say that I doubt it, as his mother lived on Woodbridge Grove in Northern Moor right up until her death. Eddie used to regularly visit her in his Rolls Royce and give all the local scallywags a few pence to ‘mind it’ for him.

But I had a quick look on Wikipedia and it says he went to Claremont Road Juniors and lived in the shadow of Maine Road, so you could well be right.

Trying to visualise Maine Road after all these years. Can't honestly remember any houses on the road, obviously loads of terraced street backing onto it. As you say If he went to Claremont Road Juniors he would have been near as dammit to the ground.

The section of Maine Road that the ground was on I don’t think had any houses on it. Apart from possibly one or two at the end just before the passage? And Alex Williams’ of course.

But it continues on the other side of Claremont Road, all the way up to Moss Lane East and theres plenty of houses all along the way.

He lived in one of the first houses right at the end of Maine road, just past the start of the Platt lane car park.
There was a tv interview in the 90s that had him visit his old house then go to the match. Not sure if it was on kick off, or just Granada reports. Might be on you tube.
