Make this season Claudio Bravo's season

it would be madness to start the season with Bravo. we have to hit the ground running. wait till September and give him a league cup game and see how he does.

Yes but surely with his new found confidence and excellent performances for Chile i think theirs a strong case for him starting at Brighton in the first match. Sometimes momentum helps in sport and Pep often looks at things like this.

You could say that but I doubt pep will risk it.
Brighton will be up for this as it is,play bravo and they're be buoyed further.

Bravo pretty much proved that he's not a Premiership keeper no matter how good he is in other circumstances. Dunno if it's the pace, the styles of play, the style of defending or what. Some like Gea start shit but adjust. Bravo just got worse. And Gea was what, the third or fourth attempt to replace Schmeichel?

I'd prefer Hart and Ed to fight it out. Buying a continental keeper for the Premiership is a bit of a Pig In A Poke gamble so it would be good to have an experienced contender for the shirt.

He is off for a month now, have no pre-season v eddie who will have a whole pre-season and you want him to start? unbelievable jeff

Purely depends how you look at it.
Last night Bravo's distribuition was excellent. As well as his keeping.
Even on the occassions he went long, Sanchez or Vidal would beat two much larger centre halves to the ball. Purely down to the trajectory of the ball.
Chile had a back 4, one failed at West Brom, one failed at Cardiff, both full backs were largely disappointing at Birmingham/Wigan and QPR.

Portugals front 5 were worth North of £300 million. Chile had a back four worth South of £10 million. Two holding midfielders playing with little more than passion & disapline.
Non of them over 6". Yet they totally controlled the game. Left Portugal with nothing, totally starved them of the ball. Bravo is key to that style of defending.

I think last night, had you replaced Bravo with a Cech or Hart, Chile would be out. Fuck, they wouldn't even be there.

Bravo is and has been key to Chile's success. Us signing him made total sense. Still does. He'll be given every opportunity to help us like he helps Chile, and hopefully help Ederson along.
So those defenders are now all brilliant because they have Bravo behind them?

And Sanchez and Vidal won headers because Bravo has a masters in aerodynamics and can calculate trajectories based on player height difference? Yet he can't make a simple save when he's back in England. His distribution is fairly good. Like an 8/10 for a keeper good. Let's not pretend he's Beckham with a pair of gloves. Us signing him didn't make sense, because we didn't sign any defenders who were comfortable taking the ball under pressure. That issue needed sorting before you implement a system where defenders are asked to take the ball under pressure. Had we have signed those defenders last season, this season would have been a logical time to buy a keeper like Bravo.

It doesn't make sense for us to keep him. Especially not now we have signed Ederson. Bravo is already on record from his time in Barcelona stating that he was unhappy about being rotated - and that was when he was playing in all the La Liga games. On top of that, he's had a terrible season. It does make sense to have a sweeper-keeper who can use his feet, but we also need a keeper who can handle the physical aspects of the league as well as actually make game defining saves.

Thankfully Pep doesn't agree with some of the assessments on here.

What?

No, those defenders are pretty shit in general. They have had ordinary careers other than Medal. Bravo is key to that type of defending.
I don't need that theory ratified in bluemoon, two of the very best coaches in the World have utilised Bravo.
If you want a keeper that comes and clatters centre forwards Bravo is not the man.

If you are going to defend in the manor I expect us to do, if Chile continue to over achieve massively then Bravo will remain key.

Why doesn't Pep agree? What have you based that on?
Yes we've signed Ederson, a young untested keeper, we've also sent Gunn on loan and released Caballero and Hart is persona non grata.

If Peo had fucked Bravo off and signed Obilak & Pickford I'd be wrong.
So I would say that as we now have two fairly small ball playing sweeper keepers that Pep very much agrees with what I'm saying.

And if you can't see the difference between Bravo finding the centre forwards and giving them a good chance of retaining the ball near every time he goes long and the likes of Cech or Hart chipping it for centre back heading practice, then you're not watching properly.

Oh and we signed Stones to play out from the back, moved Kolarov centrally for the same reason. Signed Gundogan who's one of the best transitional midfielders in World football.
We didn't sign any fullbacks, because we had four we couldn't shift.
