Makerfield By - Election. Burnham v Reform

They have become more prominent becaue starmer has moved labour to the centre.
They are now the only viable left wing party.
They have transformed themselves from a party solely focused on environmental issues to appealing to a large group of people who feel left behind by labour.
Burnham will move labour back towards the left (not corbyn left but still) and they will win a lot of new green supporters back.
I fear you may be correct.

Seems the far right have one or two problems as well. Although, needless to say, the Reform candidates history won't get the detailed splattering the Left get across the corporate media. They'll just let him not do interviews and say no more.

Think it will depend heavily on what Burnham's offer is. Was joking with a couple of labour refuseniks who've gone to the greens that now Wesley has offered a 'wealth tax' they can return home. It would be fair to say they didn't rate my comedy stylings.

Unless Burnham can properly explain how he intends to address increasing inequality I don't think they'll go back despite not actually rating the current green leadership. I suspect less politically active voters than them will return but I'm not sure Labour can recover enough to get over the line. Maybe in this bye-election yes but not nationally.

After decades of decline Labour were given an (extremely difficult) opportunity to find a way to get the country onside with measures to arrest that decline and have failed to do so. Imo it's only real route to saving the country from become a poundland trumpville at the next election is through alliances.

The problem Labour have now, since Starmer and moving forward...is anyone believing them. Everyone knows they are owned, everyone knows they are all in the pocket of the Epst class.. they know they are all Zio's and everybody knows they won't think twice about saying one thing and doing precisely the opposite. They dont even hide it now. That's one of the reasons a load of private school ex bankers have convinced many in the working class they represent them. Because Labour have lied, lied and lied again. Obviously the fact the toffs will get in and immediately bring in a U.S style private healthcare system (with all the hell and personal bankruptcy that comes with that) goes over the head of many working class folks as they are totally blinded after being SO crushed since 1979. These working class dupes will try anything to get their own back on the neoliberal system that has made their kids worse off than them, made housing impossible, made society punch down at people living in bus shelters as others live in Super Yachts...All this without caring to think that their new representatives of choice might just be Thatcherite pricks without the ability. Alot of people are about to be had in a huge way!

I fear you may be correct. Not sure what you are saying but it is very persuasive.

So Burnham is committed to “change” for the better etc but he has also committed to stick to Labour’s 2024 manifesto. Seems like he’s trying to have his cake and eat it. If he sneaks in through the back door of Downing Street he should immediately call a General Election, otherwise he has no mandate from the voters. Obviously he won’t do that as he’ll be kicked out in short order.

This is a coup d’etat and if it succeeds Labour is finished and all to satisfy grubby opportunists.

He is not running for president is he, he is looking to be a Labour Party MP. If he succeeds, he can try and be leader of that party. The Labour Party were elected as the govt last time round, not Starmer, we all know that. In fact they were elected despite Starmer. If Burnham eventually becomes leader of the party and so PM, he should be given a chance to show what he is about. Not call an election, we vote for parties not leaders or presidents or figure heads, as much as Farage may not like that

There would he no reason to call a general election, recent history shows us this. The last thing the country needs is a general election.

Yeah, there is cartload after cartload of grubbiness attached to this election. If I were a constituent the first level of anger after voting for Josh would be that he's done the dirty and manipulated the general election result for nefarious reasons. And then Burnham, voted in as mayor for a few more years. Grubby, self-seeking opportunists who, when the 'opportunity' arises put the electorate way down the pecking order. Not a bit of wonder politics is just one shitty business.

Shame the fucking Tory party didn't have such integrity while changing PM's.

It's like shit reffing decisions, managers only things one way.

The guy seems like a right thundercunt, I do agree with him we would all get up to unspeakable things with Carol Vorderman given the chance.
I imagine the things he said about Carol Vorderman will make any women think twice about employing him to do any plumbing work in their home. They would be thinking what's he up to whilst he's doing plumbing work upstairs whilst I'm downstairs. Is he rooting around in my laundry basket to sniff my soiled panties. Which is what perverts get up to. So I'm told.

There's now a betting market on who's going to come second to Labour, Reform still drifting and now currently 7/2 from an initial opening where they were odds on to win.

On another note Labours price for the next general election has also been hammered and are now favourites at 6/4 with some bookmakers.
