Malt whisky drinkers: Did you start with blends and has anybody gone back to them?

Highland Park, Laphroaig or Macallan for me. Or for blended Aldi Highland Black Special Reserve. No added water or anything else.
 
Malt or blended? Does not make sense as a whisky can be both. There are good single malts and blended whisky, and also bad of both,

I prefer smoky and peaty as opposed to the typical speyside ones, and am not too keen on the award winning Japanese ones which seem to try and be too much to me. But its a matter of taste. Irish can be just as good or better like Connemara.
