Hi All

Just wanted to know your feelings on the above title, MCLFC play in the elite 30 club pyramid of the Womens game and are in the Premiership Northern Division.
<a class="postlink" href="http://www.mclfc.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.mclfc.com</a>

MCLFC first Team just missed out on promotion to the National Division last season but continue with a concentrated push again this season, it takes £30k a year for us to operate an avenue for girls and young women to play football.
ALL players, coaches and committee members including the hard working parents are all Voluntary, due to the current financial climate and other factors, mainly being "associated" with MCFC this year we find ourselves pretty low in our funds-so are trying to organise a fundraiser to raise the coffers.

It's reported that Liverpool, and Arsenal men teams donate 1% of their wage to their respective womens teams and they want for nothing, whilst Everton contribute financially.... Man United give their players tracksuits, training, playing kit and let their girls use the Littleton Rd / Cliff training grounds, provide free coach hire for away games, sure we know it's just to appease the fact they only accommodate teams up to U18's but it's something..... Whilst Man City FC kindly donate MATCH KITS - we DO NOT receive any monetary contributions as many people assume, WE are totally independent and are not governed internally.....WE fund, balls, bibs, cones, training and match pitches, officials for all age groups, half of the junior section 9-16yr olds don't have training kit, coaches have to buy their own kit, again to which we are frantically trying to rectify - transport to away games for 1st and Reserves Teams all at extra cost, we are an evolving elite club and always looking for sponsors, the first team play at Sportscity - Reserves at Cheadle Town fc, in order to bring "Professionalism into our Amateur Status-the first team like any grass roots club takes priority and rightly so.

As good as it is for MCFC to gain the money of the oil rich Sheik -we at MCLFC have suffered greatly because sponsors and even government funding agencies refuse to donate or contribute as they automatically ASSUME we benefit from the "RICHEST CLUB IN THE WORLD!" and accept the applications from other clubs deemed to be "in more need!" how wrong they are !! Most Professional clubs although "ALLOWING" girls and ladies clubs to bear their name don't financially support the womens game... Logically we know the reason for this, that as a "business" they don't see any FINANCIAL RETURN in Womens football unless they are at the very top of the pyramid. My answer to that is 30yrs ago Arsenal "invested" in their ladies team, how were they to know that team would be one of the most prolific and inspirational teams in the World ?? Speculate to cumulate is their obvious reason. Man City want to be a world brand, want to do this and that for the local community around Eastlands but not any mention of Man City Ladies FC-although we are the name of everyones lips at the moment because of our acceleration towards the top tier and our vision......should we manage to get a sponsor we can't even offer to put their names etc on the back of tracksuits, as we use the crest of MCFC. Gratefully Swintons City Supporters Branch kindly donated screw in football boots to our 1st and Reserve Teams whom the majority of our players are at College or University and some travel from as far away as Middlesbro-Birmingham-Doncaster-Leeds to play for us with NO petrol expenses, and to reiterate the players coaches, committee members and other helpers are all voluntary whilst City are paying players £200k a week !! We're not asking for millions but a donation of a couple of 24seater mini-coaches or full training kit at each age group or an offer to pay for our pitch hire each season would enable us to spread what we manage to raise a little more further after all it is reported that MCFC have £556bn in the bank !?

Personally I think we should shed the MCLFC name and that would allow us to compete with the rest for the bags of funding money available to grass roots teams......GREATER MANCHESTER POLICE had a womens team and were faced with the same funding problems cos of their name, they are now "City of Manchester Ladies" hey presto "show me the money !" so I just wanted to start a thread seeing of what opinions City fans have of this scenario ? your comments much appreciated.

Have you spoken directly to the club airing your concerns? Surely it would be in the clubs intrest to have a top level female team. If part of the England ladies team consisted of City ladies then i for one would see that as a good thing. The main problem as you say is that ladies football isnt high profile. I think because of that you may be currently overlooked.

If you could demonstrate to City that there is a genuine intrest from City supporters to have a top level female team then maybe they would consider more funding. Have you thought about drumming up some support before a premiership match. Maybe getting a few signatures and showing the club that there is intrest, and trying to get a few more people intrested in turning up for your matches.

I think thats the only way you will get investment from the club if you show that a number of regular fans agree. After all we are always reminded that this is our club and that they want to hear from fans. I think changing the name would be ashame as its obvious who you represent with the current name.

I always thought City (the mens team) donated more than just shirts, do they not donate the athletics pitch (mini coms) for the womens matches?
I don't attend many womens matches although when you've been playing when the mens team have been playing i have stuck around to watch but very rarely, maybe you could try and get city to advertise your games on the main site? Might attract more fans down to your games?

WE are totally independent and are not governed internally.....WE fund, balls, bibs, cones, training and match pitches, officials for all age groups, half of the junior section 9-16yr olds don't have training kit, coaches have to buy their own kit, again to which we are frantically trying to rectify - transport to away games for 1st and Reserves Teams all at extra cost, we are an evolving elite club and always looking for sponsors, the first team play at Sportscity - Reserves at Cheadle Town fc, in order to bring "Professionalism into our Amateur Status-the first team like any grass roots club takes priority and rightly so.

Ha, yeah,i did read that but it says nothing about if they have to pay to play there or its donated.

I had the pleasure of reffing Man City ladies in the Womens FA Cup a couple of seasons ago. In the bar after the game i was surprised to find out that a few of them were reds. The skipper told me that they all used to play for Utd but both the ladies & diabled teams were disbanded when the yanks took over. The reason they were told was because it was too expensive to run these teams as each one cost about £30k a year. I said that Rio and the likes should've made a donation to keep them going too which she replied "do you not think we asked them, but they just wern't interested".

I'd be suprised if the club made them pay to play there.

i would of thought that it would make sence for the club to support the ladies team cos womens football is a huge sport in america where the club is trying to gain new fans

I take it this is in reference to what i wrote in the beach volleyball thread. The answer is no, as that was a joke.
