Oh - Hummels 1988 - so he is at Dortmund - you have to mention, too. Or Soriano who made his debut for Italy last week who is of 1991.
That is what youth work at top clubs is about. To find that one or two gems each year that make it into the league - and best to the top.
I apologise to Bayern Blade, it's Maldeika who makes the raggy comments. Well done mate. You didn't buy your success either.
I do not know why that makes it a raggy comment. I just explain that good youth teams do not transfer in successful adult teams. Neither Schweinsteiger, nor Lahm or Müller had really much matches in the German U-teams - the ones who did very often play now in the 3rd or 4th league or in Turkey. Bayern's best youth player of that 1984 generation who still leads the charts for goals scored in German U-teams plays in the Turkish 2nd league. Or look for the name of Berkant Göktan... - he was the best youth player who has ever played for Bayern...
If raggy is being realistic and watching what happens to youth players for decades...
Just because teams have been poor at bringing through a substantial number of players in the past, doesn't mean it is a rule that it will always be the case.
Clubs have been lazy, particularly in this country. It's easier to pinch the players from someone else when they get older than to put huge resources into trying to create a sigjificant number of your own. But City are trying to do something better, & putting almost unparallelled amount of effort into it, & the fact we keep shafting Bayern up the arse at this level, suggests we are on the right lines.
