Willy gets the vote for the penalty heroicsbut it has to be said everyone worked there socks off and special mentions for Fernando and Clichy for past the obvious brilliance of Aguero.
 
Vinny gets it for me. It's almost worrying that his mere presence changes the defence that much, because he's never going to able to play a full season for us. Willy I knock my head against the floor and salaam to a thousand times for his penalty heroics, but the plain fact is he got fantastic protection from that back four during normal time. He actually had very few saves to make for 120 minutes. Vinny's presence makes all the difference. He is The Captain.

Not really. The game lasted 120 minutes not just the penalty shoot out. Willy was an absolute hero in the shootout but Kompany was immense the full 120 and they wouldn't have scored but for a flukey bit of luck. Willy is way ahead in the votes so why you moaning?
 
Fernando for me, one of the main reasons the dippers didn't have a real sniff for most of the game, missed him in ET but he was probably dead on his feet after his excellent performances in the last few games, special mention for vinny and willy was heroic in the shoot out and had a brilliant stop in ET
 
Vincent Kompany for me .

Boy have we missed him for big chunks of this season .

Captain fantastic .

I don't agree with the poster, saying no one else should be voted for.
But if it wasn't for Willy's save from Origi's header, then it most probably would
have only been 90 minutes and no cup.
 
Willy won us the match, but for me Ferny was excellent for the entire game. He gets my vote

I'm moaning because it's not close. Because the penalties are a part of the game. Because if Aguero had scored a hat trick in any game he'd have been motd without a doubt. And what Willy did was better than a hat trick.

But most especially, I moan because I'm an irreverant prick who thinks everything is wrong when he 'believes' he has seen an injustice. Am O right? Probably not, but for the life of me can't see anything anyone could have done in a game that ended 1-1, that would make them superior to a gut who stopped 3 penalties.

Komps would have had to clear out 3 goal bound goals, make ten tackles and intercepted 9 passes ( he did get that one :)) for his performance to ussurp Willy's heroics. He didn't though.

Put under the light of significant facts, there are no comparisons.
Willy saved a goal bound header in extra time to keep us alive. I believe Origi beat Both Ota and Komps to get the ball towards goal.

Then he goes on to stop 3 straight penalties after we missed our first. How could anyone see past these meteoric feats?

Komps for all his good positional play (9 steals) gave up the ball in over 50% of his possesion. He had a 44% completion rate. Might be the worst rate by any CB for us this season. This is not to dig at him, but simply to show how untenable the idea he was better than Willy sounds.

And there are those who voted, Yaya, Silva, The Ferns and Ota. All nice games, but none were anywhere as close or as instrumental to our victory as Willy was.

It's like picking someone else for Motm when Aguero scored that last second goal that broke Drunkards back. You simply can't. Regardless of what anyone else had done prior. The moment makes the man. And those moments made Willy. He and only he deserved the vote.

But then again, I have been wrong before :)
