Man up

Look mate I wish we could all be as optimistic as you but most of us are too long in the tooth for that.

Bear in mind that we currently lie only 10th in the current form table based on the last 6 match results and we have to play at home Sunderland (just drawn at Arsenal), Spurs (beat us last year), West Ham (fighting for survival) & Stoke (possibly also fighting for survival).

Away from home we have Chelsea (just beat the Scum unlike us), Liverpool (same as Chelsea), Blackburn (fighting for survival), Everton (boggy team) & Bolton (no body's push over).

You would need a bleeding miracle if we would get enough points to win the League, in fact we are going to be hard pushed to finish in the top four if our current form does not improve.

I will take an optimistic view:
- Sunderland (Payback time for earlier in the season.)
- Spurs (We are well overdue a win against them)
- West Ham (Can't see us not winning this one)
- Stoke (Same as Spurs)
- Chelsea (We seem to have their number as of late)
- Liverpool (There is no reason why we shouldn't be able to outplay them)
- Blackburn (I expect we will lose this. I don't know why but I just expect us to.)
- Everton (See Spurs and Stoke)
- Bolton (See Blackburn)

Realistically though, that is a very tricky run in. We will have to be at the top of our game to finish 4th.

There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night
Ten to make and the match to win
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play, and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat.
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his captain's hand on his shoulder smote
"Play up! Play up! And play the game!"

The sand of the desert is sodden red -
Red with the wreck of a square that broke
The gatling's jammed and the colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed its banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of a schoolboy rallies the ranks -
"Play up! Play up! And play the game!"

This is the word that year by year,
While in her place the school is set,
Every one of her sons must hear,
And none that hears it dare forget.
This they all with a joyful mind
Bear through life like a torch in flame,
And falling fling to the host behind -
"Play up! Play up! And play the game!"

or you could look at it another way
last 5 games
4 wins 1 draw
13 goals for 1 against,
4 out of 5 clean sheets

and allegedly not playing well
granted no top teams in there but you can only play who is in front of you

I don't think cup games count towards the league. They never used to anyway.

Too long in the tooth for optimism...hmmmm

Were in third place based on games for the season

Away from home we have Chelsea (just beat the Scum unlike us), Liverpool (same as Chelsea), Blackburn (fighting for survival), Everton (boggy team) & Bolton (no body's push over).

So were going into those games expecting to lose? Wouldnt that be counter productive?

You would need a bleeding miracle if we would get enough points to win the League, in fact we are going to be hard pushed to finish in the top four if our current form does not improve.

Fully agree. My point isnt that I expect us to win the league. My point is that while its still possible thats what we should be aiming for and if we secure top three or four because of taking that approach all well and good. My op was tongue in cheek but only slightly
