"Manchester A Football History" at the printers

I've had a few people ask me about the differences between the first edition and this edition. Unlike my 2010 biography of Joe Mercer (which was a fully revised and updated edition of the 1993 biog with a new design and significant new content) this keeps the original style and most of the content but it has been enlarged to add material and modern information. The original came out in April 2008 and, as we all know, a lot has happened to all the region's clubs since then.

There are some minor changes throughout the book but the main significant changes are:

- Chapter 4 - rewritten to focus on latest information about City's birth as St. Mark's (debunking a significant myth).
- Chapter 24 - new chapter 'Supporter Action' replacing original Chapter 24
- Chapter 25 - new chapter 'Money Matters' focusing on the story of the region's clubs in the last few seasons (plenty of material on Tevez poster/Utd banner; Hyde's City link, Dale promotion; County & Oldham... basically all the region's sides etc.)
- Chapter 26 onwards - these chapters have been revised and moved because of new chapters & text
- Chapter 27 - now covers 'The Media' and includes additional information on the region's clubs on TV including a few significant national landmarks for City on TV
- Chapter 28 - Managers - update to Fergie's record
- Chapter 29-31 - update to all the stats etc.
- Chapter 32 - now covers 'The Grounds' and includes detail on how Manchester Council wanted Utd to be tenants at Eastlands; plus material on Oldham's proposed move & an image of present day Maine Road (well about a year ago).
- New chapter 33 - 'Transfer Trail' detailing Manchester's part in the British transfer record and all transfers by the Manchester clubs of £7m plus (interesting reading).
- Final Word - a final comment by a Manchester fan from the 50s about the significance of the game.
- Colour section - new images focusing on the game for each side (hence shows Rochdale's promotion images; Stockport play off; Manchester derby).

As before this book focuses on City, United, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport and former League side Stalybridge. It gives the story of the game in the region and inevitably there is something significant of interest to supporters of any of the region's sides.

Hope this helps. It's been pointed out to me that on Amazon someone has put a comment suggesting this is a smaller book than the original - that's not true. This is an enlarged version and contains an additional 36 pages (544 plus 8 page colour section) plus some significant updates. Apart from some images in the colour section (replaced with other more modern images) and a rewrite of the 'modern era' stuff nothing has been removed from the original book; it's been added to.

I hope to have some new page layout examples added to the facebook page soon: "James Ward Publishing" - <a class="postlink" href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/James-Ward-Publishing/266700661882" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.facebook.com/pages/James-War ... 6700661882</a>
