Manchester Airport police assault trial | Man found guilty of assaulting two female police officers

have i made this up in my own head,
or could you go and simply watch the planes take off and land, for free somehow?
possibly up on top of the terminal itself.
just turn up with sarnies and binoculars, no bag searches.
i'm meaning mid-late 70's.

I remember watching from the roof of the passenger 'pier' in 1962 as my brother and his new wife departed for their honeymoon in sunny Spain, in a Douglas Dakota.

As the plane wobbled down the runway, I honestly thought we'd never see them again.

Seven days later, I became the very proud owner of a real sombrero and a straw donkey, held together by dozens of pins.

It was always kicking off in the airport pub when I was going there when i worked at Truse House Forte. Shame because it was a lovely location. The pub has improved a lot since then though.

The Romper was used by the pilots when I used to go there, nice little pub.
Do you remember Males Garage at the side of THF? Seems strange to think how it was to how it is now.

That's it pal. I already acknowledged that jonnytapia got the easy one in Back in the USSR, but you've also got the much more difficult one with Montego Bay.
"Vernon'll meet me when the BOAC lands,
Key's to the MG will be in his hands".

Well done to you and jonnytapia!!
Apparently, there is also Girl on the Bus by Cliff Richard and the Shadows that also includes a reference BOAC in the lyrics. I don't think it was a released as a single though.

Nice one!

The most obvious one is Back in the USSR and there is also Montego Bay (although its not that obvious to the listener as I think Bobby Bloom sings it as "BO-AC" in the latter).

Clearly no or very few references to BOAC in songs post the merger with BEA in the early 1970's....
Woah, i'm going to Barbados.....

Wrong song,pal.
Those lyrics are from a song by Typically Tropical, that was in the charts in 1975 and had the title "Barbados".
No mention of BOAC in that particular tune, although the pilot/ Captain of the jet does introduce himself at the start -
" Ladies and gentlemen, this is Captain Tobias Wilcox speaking".

Happy days doing the plane spotting thing especially if it was foggy down south as the bigger planes would divert to Manchester...2 x 2p bus tickets each way and find a spot on the piers with a heat extractor for the day to keep warm.

Yes pal.
Had a couple of cars repaired with them our contact Derek the owner.
Remember Fullaloves the shop on the corner between Males and the airport pub.
Just like Arkwrights shop in open all hours

I used to go in the 1950s. There was a little enclosure next to the apron. (No piers in those days.) One day fog closed just about everywhere else, it was magic chaos. I remember seeing a KLM superconstellation, a huge turboprop with a triple tail.

Apologies for going off topic but not sure if this is the best place to post this ;)

Basically a police officer is being investigated for leaking CCTV footage to the MEN. When I first heard about this last night, it sounded like it was to do with the first truncated clip that we all saw, but upon reading the full article it seems it's the subsequent, longer, video that gave far greater context. I'm not sure about the reasons for investigating him but it could be possible contempt of court and jeopardising the trial I suppose.

I saw this on the news today.

Did us all a favour, preventing further riots/protests and essentially getting the two brothers and their motley crew to wind their necks in.

Probably the reason why they are charging him, I suspect the CPS and the government would have loved to have swept this under a big fuck off carpet.
