While looking for odds on Oldham’s next manager I found this on <a class="postlink" href="http://www.thesackrace.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.thesackrace.com/</a>

Looking at our managerial history I’ve got to say how lucky we are to have Roberto in charge, especially when you look at the rubbish we had through the 90's.

Maybe we won’t win the league this year but we're not going away easily and will be back to contest again next season.

Thought some of the below might bring back a few memories. Have a look and name who was your favourite and why?

There's not Laudrup? If Mancini will be sacked then Laudrup seems like the most logical choice. Txiki as DoF would want somebody he knows and can trust. They spent 4, 5 years together at Barca, Laudrup speaks spanish, english and he's EPL experienced now.

Good shout haha, never put 2&2 together with Laudrup...

In the 27 years Fergie has been United manager, how many managers have come and gone at other top English clubs? How will they cope when SAF retires? Remember the long list after Matt Busby retired? In the same 27 years this is the count elsewhere:

At City there have been 18 managers, but if you ignore 3 caretaker-managers it is only 15. Of those 15 the record for shortest stay is Steve Coppel (6 games, W2, D1, L3), who was followed by Phil Neal (10 games, W2, D1, L7). So up until recently we can see what instability does for you (or not as the case may be). At last we have a realistic patient owner who has invested for the long haul. So RM has brought us an FA Cup win, an EPL Championship, Euro qualification each season, and this season we will have a top 3 finish and still have a good shot at another FA Cup win. Roberto's short-comings and tactical naivite are all things he should be able to work on; when he learns to take advice, when he learns to let his players off the leash to play their natural game. These are not reasons to fire the manage; these are things to put an arm on his shoulder and push him in the right direction, or if that doesn't work then a swift kick a bit lower down.

At Spurs there have been 22 managers, more if you count co-managers. So even today with an impatient owner anyone can see what instability does for you.
At Chelsea there have been 17 managers, but if you ignore 3 caretaker-managers it is only 14. In the recent past they have had several seasons with 2 managers. So even today with an impatient owner anyone can see what instability does for you.
At Liverpool there have been 9 managers, but changing rapidly in the recent past. So even today with an impatient owner anyone can see what instability does for you.
At Arsenal there have been 6 managers, so anyone can see what stability does for you.

Not a bad shout mate.
I actually like the idea of us NOT replacing Roberto (if that came about) with one of the most obvious and high profile choices, much like Bobby wasn't exactly the most sought after manager in Europe when we hired him.
So who could be the next Pep?

In the past I think Sven G Eriksson was a very important manager for us. He changed the way everyone looked at City; us, opposite fans, other clubs, the media... and he turned us into a side with class and he gave us the double over Manure.
Too bad he had an idiot for a chairman/owner, getting the sack just a little bit too early as I would have loved to see him remain in charge once the Sheikh had taken over.

Billy McNeil for me. He was the manager when I was a boy and I still sing to myself Billy McNeil's Blue and White Army quite a lot. Loved it when that went on for ages.

Horton and Keegan will probably come top of my list, with Bond, Machin and Reid given a mention to... 'boo and hiss' to Kendal and McNeil... both promised much but were tempted by so-called 'bigger clubs'. Was funny as f**k when Villa went down in 87 with us, deeply poetic!

In my opinion we shouldn't even be discussing managers or managment changes. Support and back Bobby Manc. Ignore the spew the Sun etc publish.
