Manchester City...More Than A Football Club?

Already so much more than a football team to me. A cruel mistress, a wife, a daughter. An errant child.
I get the analogy. However if a wife or mistress ever made me feel as bad as I have done with City, I would have left. With City that's not an option!

I was discussing this with a friend. I reckon we should buy a SuperLeague Formula (F1 downgraded) team. I mean, check out the list of teams who already compete:

I'd fucking love City to build up an ice hockey club. I used to go to watch Manchester Storm a lot when they were at the Nynex. Organise their fixtures, as far as possible, to alternate with City's home matches and that would be brilliant. As long as they don't the same mistake that happened to Storm originally; thinking they could charge football prices for a game which hasn't got a strong foothold in this country. If they charge cinema prices, they will get big crowds again. I can remember over 17,000 one match which is pretty staggering.

I was at the storm when they set the European attendance record... 17,245 at Nynex

That's the one. Against Sheffield Steelers wasn't it? C'mon Sheikh, y'know you want to. Bring the EICL to Manchester.

Absolutely, and I suggest we have an over-60's Brompton cycle league with the club investing thousands into the scam, sorry, scheme, by way of footy shirts (Size L for me thank you) and assorted freebies. I can turn out on Sundays, even if it looks like rain.

My kids used to love it! The atmosphere before the teams came out!!! The thunder & Lightning to signal the 'arrival of the storm'... a pre runner to our turning the lights off..

The Sheik already owns a large portion of ferrari, why would he need a downgraded team?

Good value-for-money family night out the Storm was. It'd be brilliant to have it back as part of City's plot of take over the world:

As has already been said on this thread most of the continental teams started out as members clubs, or still are in some cases, and that is why they have always fielded teams in various sports. However, over the last 20 years in a lot of cases the football team, which is normally the most profitable/expensive part of the club, has actually been spun off and is now an independent entity so while you might see a Partizan Belgrade basketball team or Bayer Leverkusen water polo they don't really have much to do with the football club any more other than sharing a name. I think we as a club should be concentrating all our efforts on the football at the moment because there could still be a lot of speed bumps along the way.

However, having said that if the sheik wants to set up a Manchester City Sports Club which will be run completely separately from the football and won't eat into our resources monetarily or in terms of personnels attention having to be split between the two then I wouldn't mind it. It would have to stick to minority sports like cycling or ice hockey though, trying to break into either code of rugby would take a lot of effort.
